Working under the direction of the School Business Manager to be responsible for the general maintenance, cleanliness and security of the school and to maintain the premises (both internally and externally) in a clean, safe, sound and secure condition for staff, pupils, parents and community users.

As a key holder you may be required to respond to emergency callouts. Overtime will be paid for any out-of-hour call outs.
- Lock/unlock school buildings and areas as required.
- Operate alarm system.
- Carry out a daily perimeter check for hazards, damages and intruders when opening and closing and to record any actions.
- Report any need for repair of maintenance work to the School Business Manager.
- Assist in dealing with matters concerning building maintenance, including internal decoration and basic plumbing and joinery work.
- Undertake minor/simple maintenance e.g., unblocking drains.
- Check for faults on heating system, lights and any external/internal damage.
- Take reasonable action to keep all low-level drains, downspouts, waste pipes etc. clean and clear of minor blockages that are clearly visible. If unachievable, report to School Business Manager.
- To organise and carry out minor improvement work e.g. erecting shelves, notice boards, bookshelves etc. as agreed with the headteacher and SBM.
- Emergency cleaning which may be necessary to maintain hygienic standards;
- Keep site and grounds, including the car park, litter free.
- Sweep leaves as and when appropriate.
- Undertake any necessary portaging duties in line with correct handling policies e.g. setting up seating in the school hall for a performance, putting out tables for a social event in the hall, movement of furniture within the building etc.
- Empty all bins (internal and external) on a daily basis and put out for collection by refuse company.
- Manage and assist with all deliveries to the school, ensuring the proper storage and distribution of all goods, after the admin staff have checked them.
- Ensure that all lights, windows and heaters are kept in good working order are turned off at night before locking up.
- Ensure that adequate supplies of domestic consumables are available in all toilets e.g. paper towels, soap, toilet roll.
- Ensure hand sanitiser bottles are topped up on a regular basis.
- Assist in the ordering of domestic consumables.
- Ensure the proper and safe storage of all equipment and materials.
- Sweep and mop hall floor on a daily basis.
- Dust surfaces in hall on a weekly basis.
- Remove graffiti where possible.
- Ensure that gritting schedules supplied by school are carried out.
- Follow any other reasonable request made by the School Business Manager and Headteacher.
- Weekly water flushing.
- Weekly visual check of fire extinguishers.
- Pre-use ladder checks and storage in line with guidelines.
- Weekly fire alarm testing.
- Weekly visual check of playground equipment.
- Testing of emergency lighting.

35 hours per week - Split shifts (06:30 - 10:00 and 15:00 - 18:30)

**Job Type**: Permanent

**Salary**: £10.09-£11.59 per hour

Schedule:

- Monday to Friday
- Overtime

Ability to commute/relocate:

- Wigan, Greater Manchester: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)

**Experience**:

- cleaning: 1 year (preferred)
- janitorial: 1 year (preferred)

Licence/Certification:

- Driving Licence (preferred)
