As the matron for Oncology and Medicine, you will work within your scope of professional practice to prioritise people, preserve safety and promote professionalism and trust in effectively managing a number of wards, departments of teams to provide excellent,safe, effective and compassionate care throughout the 24-hour period.

You will be patient focused and provide nursing leadership and direction for all nursing staff across the services managed and act as a point of contact for advice and expertise on all matters relating to both professional nursing and specific specialtyissues.

Acting as a role model of clinical leadership who inspires, motivates and empowers nurses within the service to deliver their best, the post holder is responsible for effectively managing the financial resources, ensuring the optimal deployment of the nursingworkforce to ensure high-quality patient care is delivered and monitored.This will require the post holder to contribute to both corporate and hospital initiatives and plans, particularly in respect of changes in patient care delivery and quality.

In collaboration with the Deputy Chief Nursing Officer, and Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) you will be involved in the planning and implementation of developments relating to nursing throughout the hospital.

**Duties & Responsibilities**:

- Act as a role model for nurses in the designated clinical area, promoting and demonstrating the standards of care and behaviour expected and at all times exhibiting high standards of professional conduct
- Provide effective line management to ward managers, sisters and senior staff nurses within the service providing guidance, support and coaching and through them ensure that all nursing staff within the service are appropriately managed, ensuring that associatedfinancial resources are controlled and utilised effectively, demonstrating value for money and high-quality patient care.
- Devise quality improvement plans as required - Complaints, incidents, audits, patient and staff experience
- Lead on workforce compliance - Ensuring all hours are logged and accounted for and that targets are met in line with the unit budgets
- Develop effective and collaborative relationships with key stakeholders on the unit including consultants and funding bodies
- Supporting the CNO in developing nursing operational policies and service specifications in line with the requirements of service commissioners
- Actively participate in an analysis and review of the training and educational needs of the clinical team alongside the CPF, ensuring that individual staff training and education needs form part of their PDP

**Skills & Experience**:

- Registered Nurse
- Evidence of a high level of clinical competence within defined specialties of Oncology
- Chemotherapy trained
- At least 5 years post registration experience
- Demonstrable success in leading and delivering practice
- Maintain own professional development
- Ability to produce effective ways of working and improve service delivery
- Commitment to improving patient care outcomes
- Excellent verbal and non-verbal communication skills
- Knowledge of relevant hospital policies and procedures, including Health and Safety
- Health and Safety training including moving and handling
