The Trauma and Orthopaedic service at NUH is looking for people who can act as ambassadors for the Physician Associate role and establish themselves as indispensable members of the multi-disciplinary team. Appointments will be for one year initially, extendable by mutual agreement. **Working for our organisation**: - Formal clinical and educational supervision plus a clinical mentor - Opportunity to get involved in audit and research - Access to regular departmental teaching - Opportunity to learn clinical procedures - Regular meetings with the PA team across the hospital - PA Forum - The chance to build the profile and shape the role of PAs across the hospital - Opportunity to develop their acute medicine skills by contributing to the "hospital at day" on call team **Detailed job description and main responsibilities**: In addition to the below summary you need to familiarise yourself with the full Job Description and Person Specification documents attached to this advert. **Person specification**: **Training & Qualifications**: **Essential criteria**: - BSc degree - PG Diploma or Masters in Physician Associate Studies from a UK training programme (or equivalent) - Valid certification of Physician Associate Revalidation Exam (if applicable) - Full membership at the Faculty of Physician Associates at the RCP (or proof of awaiting membership to be finalised) - Registration with the UK Managed Voluntary Register (FPA MVR or proof awaiting to be finalised) **Experience**: **Essential criteria**: - Ability to develop and maintain own clinical skills to high standard to ensure safe delivery of care - Ability to follow NHS and NUH locally developed medical policies, protocols and procedures - Commitment to lifelong learning and personal development by continuing professional development - Clinical training and experience in general medicine - Experience of teaching - Experience of audit **Communication and relationship**: **Essential criteria**: - Ability to work flexibly across different locations and multi-task when necessary, including as required out of hours work - Able to work independently as well as part of a multi-disciplinary team utilising excellent interpersonal skills - Ability to organise and prioritise workload effectively - Describe and receive complex information from various sources evidencing excellent communication skills - Ability to influence and challenge colleagues appropriately - Ability to bring people together, deal effectively with conflict and resilience to distressing circumstances - Reflect on NHS experience including current theoretical knowledge base or relevant practical experience **Analytical and Judgement skill**: **Essential criteria**: - Judgements involving complex facts or situations, requiring analysis, interpretation, comparison of a range of options - Work within the team, using clinical skills to deliver patient care including weekends and out of hours, requiring analysis and judgement of the range of possibilities. This will include differential diagnosis of possible different clinical presentations - Different patient scenarios will have to be considered during the patient pathway: assessment of the patient and the development of treatment/rehabilitation plans for patients. This could occur at outpatients - Request investigations and interpret their findings in view of other clinical information as per guidelines within the acute setting - During pre and post-operative care, continual analysis will be required of the clinical information and using judgement required to ensure that the pre and post-operative care/rehabilitation plan is still applicable - Utilising own professional judgement and in discussion with the medical team decide when patients require referral to another speciality - Record and present findings in a manner consistent with local policies and procedures, using judgement to ensure facts are reported correctly - Assist medical and nursing staff in all clinical emergencies - Inform and counsel patients and relatives/carers regarding explanation of procedures, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation - Fully document all aspects of patient care and complete required p
