- Job description- With the spotlight currently on water company environmental performance, now is an exciting time to be working for the Environment Agency to improve it. We are looking for somebody with a good understanding of the water industry and how it impacts the environment to join our team as a Water Company Account Officer. Based in our Operations Catchment Services department, the South West Account team is responsible for supporting our local operational work with water companies, keeping an overview of their environmental performance and influencing improvements at a senior level. We also influence strategic water company plans for the future.
As an Account Officer you will be accountable for the following:

- Development of, and tracking progress of water company action plans
- Leading a virtual team of National and Area colleagues to bring together intelligence and monitor risks to performance.
- Monitoring and reporting of the Water Company delivery of the Water Industry National Environment Programme
- Reporting water company performance
- Supporting Managers’ and Directors’ influential engagement with Water Companies, through timely, accurate and informative briefings

You will also be expected to have an appropriate incident management role and will be fully supported and trained to participate in this important area of work.
- The team- You will join a small, geographically facing team, which works directly with key customers involved in water planning and performance. This is a permanent vacancy working in our South West Accounts team. Whilst proximity to / location in the South West is preferable, the location can be flexible.
- Experience/skills required- You should have a thorough understanding of the regulatory and planning framework for the water industry. Experience of water company planning or regulation is also required. You will need to be well organised with good influencing and communication skills to be able to confidently work with a range of internal and external customers. Chartered (or working towards) membership of a relevant professional body is desirable.
Through experience to date you should be able to demonstrate the following:

- Knowledge and practical experience of water company regulation and/or planning,
- Focus on customers and partners,
- Strong written and spoken communication skills
- Influencing skills to help persuade internal and external partners to take action.
