Support Worker for The Haven

St LeonardsonSea, United Kingdom Sussex Partnership NHS FoundationTrust Full time

Working closely with adult mental health services and partner organisations across Sussex, The Haven will ensure that we can offer an effective, safe and accessible alternative to A&E and provide timely crisis interventions for service users in the community.

As the Haven is open 24 hours every day of the year the role requires day and night shifts. However, this post will be predominantly day shifts with and occasional rotation on to nights. A 12-week in advance roster gives a good work life balance and allows for social plans and activities to be made well in advance. The night shifts are paid with enhancements.

As a support worker in The Haven, your priority will be to work alongside, and support colleagues to ensure the safety of service users who are attending in crisis.

In The Haven environment they will be offered a further assessment of their needs and risks by the nursing staff. The support worker role is to offer a therapeutic opportunity either prior to assessment, or post assessment until they are ready to leave with an onward care plan.

Within this role there is also the opportunity to work with the MHLT nurses and support with assessments for those who we are unable to bring to the Haven.

We provide mental health and learning disability care for children, young people and adults across Sussex and for children and young people in Hampshire.

**Working in Sussex**:

- Travel easily between coast and countryside, with a blend of picturesque villages and seaside towns
- Embrace the city life with great access to visit Brighton and London
- With easy access to Gatwick and Heathrow and excellent railway links across the UK there is plenty of opportunity for adventure

We’d love you to join our organisation that is rated ‘good’ overall and ‘outstanding’ for caring by the CQC. Our staff agree, in our recent staff survey 82% told us that they recognise that care for patients is our top priority.

In order to be a successful Urgent Support Worker in our team you will have
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
- Experience in working with members of the public.

**It would also be advantageous if you have**:

- Experience of working in a care setting
- Experience of working with mental illness or have lived experience.

You will offer a therapeutic intervention and direct care to clients attending in crisis under the guidance of the nurse in charge. These interventions will be based on an individual’s needs and risks.

Please see job description for full details of a support worker role.
