**Main Objectives of Role**:To care and support people living in the care home to live their lives the way they want to and how they want to. Ensuring that they support people to achieve their outcomes and what matters to them.

**Key Tasks**
- Engaging with people in a meaningful and person-centred way when supporting people; putting them at the heart of everything
- Supporting and assisting people with their daily living tasks; bathing, showering, dressing, eating and drinking, oral hygiene, mobilising around the home, managing continence, managing skin viability/repositioning
- Ensuring that they check the texture of food and drinks for people requiring a soft diet, pureed food and thickened drinks for people who require them prior to supporting with eating and drinking
- Reading and following care plans and risk assessments
- Reading the company’s policies and procedures and adhering to them
- Reporting to the person in charge any changes to physical or mental health efficiently and effectively and recording these concerns
- Reporting any accidents or incidents swiftly and in detail to the person in charge and completing necessary paperwork
- Recording day and night logs in detail and with accuracy
- Reporting any safeguarding concerns to the person in charge
- Following infection control procedures at all times and ensuring the PPE is worn
- Ensuring that all clinical waste and PPE is disposed of efficiently and in line with policy and procedure
- Ensuring that the laundry policy and procedure is followed to prevent cross infection
- Ensuring that people’s rooms are kept clean and tidy following care and support
- Responding to call bells in a timely manner, regardless of assigned tasks given out by person in charge
- Reporting any faulty equipment immediately to the person in charge

**Responsible for**:

- Working in line with the five main principles of the Social Care and Wellbeing (Wales) Act 2014;
- Optimising independence and voice and control of people living in the home
- Working in a preventative and interventive way to ensure people remain safe and healthy
- Helping people to optimise their wellbeing; their self-worth and independence and doing things **_with_** a person and not **_for_** them - recognising their skills and abilities
- Working with a person and their families/representatives in co-production; involving them in their day to day care, support and activities, to make decisions and choices for themselves
- Working with multi-agencies; the person’s families/representatives and a team of health professionals involved in supporting a person to achieve their outcomes
- Attending induction and ongoing training as required by the manager/deputy and Orchard Care Group
- Attending any supervisions and appraisals as arranged by the manager/deputy manager
- Enrolling onto the All Wales Induction Framework and completing this induction
- Working as a part of a team and respecting colleagues you work with
- Being accountable for the work you do
- Being responsible and reliable in relation to your attendance and contract of employment
- Being responsible for your timesheet
- Being responsible for your own health and safety at work and the safety of others
- Promoting and upholding the reputation of the home
- Carrying out of any tasks and duties relating to your role as requested by the person in charge, Manager and Deputy Manager to meet the ongoing needs of the organisation

Essential
- Be of good character with honesty and integrity (interview and references)
- Be caring and empathetic (interview)
- Has to be reliable and responsible (interview and references)
- Be able to understand the importance of their role or why they wish to work in a care setting (interview)
- Be able to provide good references from previous employment or character references
- Be able to work as part of a team (interview and references)
- Be able to read and write; phonetically would be acceptable as we can support with dyslexia

Desirable
- Previous experience/knowledge of person-centred care
- A QCF in Health & Social Care or working towards
- Previous mandatory training carried out
