Our ward is a busy proactive 33 bedded area specialising in Vascular Surgery. We provide diagnostic, Pre and Post operative care / treatment for Vascular conditions, for patients with both acute and chronic Vascular problems. We are an established team and although it is a very busy and demanding ward we work closely as a team and deal with the day to day pressures with positivity and high levels of energy.
We love making a difference and working together as a close family to gain the rewards of making our patients journey enjoyable and successful. In order to do this we are looking for Healthcare Assistants with a genuine interest in acute Surgery to join us.
You will be responsible for providing a range of personalised care for patients and a range of clinical duties under the guidance and supervision of the Team Leader/Nurse in charge including: assisting patients with personal hygiene, toileting, use of continence aids, catheter care, stoma care, measuring & monitoring patient output, removal of catheters, moving and handling, use of mobility equipment, correct patient positioning, assess pressure areas and skin integrity, undertake further Tissue Viability training, ensuring patient safety, taking & collecting specimens, taking and recording physical measurements observing patients for changes in condition, carrying out simple dressings, assist with complex Vascular dressings, removal of venflons.
Within the Ward we have our own designated team of therapists, and MDT working in a high priority. There are also opportunities to work as ‘link nurses’ being a focus on the ward specific areas of care (E.g. infection control, pressure ulcer prevention)

- Adult Allergy & Clinical Immunology
- Cancer (including radiotherapy, drug therapies and cancer surgery)
- Disablement services such as artificial limbs and wheelchairs
- Major Trauma
- Neurosurgery and Neurology (brain surgery and nervous system diseases)
- Renal (kidney diseases)
- Vascular -In 2013 we became the regional vascular centre for Lancashire and South Cumbria.
We were established in 2005 and were the first trust in the country to be awarded ‘teaching hospitals’ status.
Provide good quality personalised care in accordance with agreed local and national standards.
**Take samples from patients for testing or dispatching eg**: Urine, sputum, faeces, MRSA swabs, blood sugars
Assist patients to meet nutritional needs in line with their individual care plan.
Undertake clinical duties relevant to clinical area following achievement of competencies.
Assist to maintain patient safety, conforming to health, safety and security legislation, policies, procedures and guidelines.
Assist in maintaining standards of care to improve the patient experience and outcome of care.
Promote equality in care and practice by recognising, respecting and meeting the needs and choices of individuals
Contribute to maintaining safe, clean, and productive care environment, compliant with standards for hygiene and cleanliness.
Maintain and develop own competence
Actively try to resolve issues and complaints at local level and then Report the outcome to line manager.
