**Main purpose of the job (why does the job exist?) including responsibilities**:
**Key activities/main duties**:
This is a diverse position with plenty of scope for development. Typically, the role is responsible for support, maintenance, and implementation of the following services:

- Data and voice network infrastructure (LAN and WAN)
- Networking and security
- Cloud platforms
- Develop and maintain scripts used for automation of business systems
- Act as an escalation point for junior team members
- Organising regular testing of disaster recovery and backup plans
- Form part of the on-call team to provide out-of-hours assistance where required

**Requirements, background, skills**:
**Key Skills**
- Experience with Windows Server and its related roles (Active Directory, Exchange, IIS)
- Experience with or willingness to learn about Linux distributions (Debian/Ubuntu, CentOS)
- Experience with virtualization technologies such as VMWare or Hyper-V
- Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS and Azure
- Experience with scripting languages such as Powershell, Python, Bash
- Experience with networking equipment (switches, routers, firewalls) such as Cisco, Juniper, Palo Alto
- Experience with networking fundamentals: TCP/IP stack, Wireshark / tcpdump, VPN, subnetting, routing protocols, VLANs etc.

**Desirable Skills**
- Experience with Microsoft technology stacks (.NET Core,.NET Framework etc.)=
- Relevant qualifications such as CCNA / CCNA Security, CCNP, MCSA, MCSE
- Experience with software deployment solutions such as Octopus Deploy and GitLab CI/CD
- Experience with telephony systems such as 8x8, Mitel, Cisco etc.
- Experience with service management solutions such as JIRA or Trello
- Experience with Linux orientated tools and services (for example nginx, nmap, rclone, nagios, puppet)
