Peer Support Mentor

ABOUT THE ROLE As a Peer Support Mentor, you will use your own lived experience to build trusting and supportive relationships with residents, and carry out the responsibilities of the role which will be tailored to the service specific needs. You will support and empower our residents and participants to maintain their health and wellbeing, to be part of the wider community and help them to lead more fulfilling lives. You will be involved in organising and delivering stimulating and engaging groups and activities across our sites to address the challenges faced by our residents and participants, to support them on their journey towards independent living. Rota: Monday to Sunday between 9am and 9pm Please note, we have full time and part time positions available for this role.
Flexible working is available ABOUT THE SERVICE The SIG Penrose Complex Needs Hub is commissioned via the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea to provide safe, accommodation-based housing and relational support services for people who are deemed to be socially excluded. The Complex Needs Hub is a service designed with a Supportive Relational Model, this aims to deliver support interventions with the residents and participants needs and aspirations at its heart. We foster the following elements within the model; strength/asset based approaches, trauma informed practice, psychologically informed environments and co-production. We understand that many of those accessing our service have experienced multiple disadvantage and adverse experiences.
The needs of service users may include but is not exclusive to: Single homeless people with support needs Rough sleepers or former rough sleepers Offenders or ex-offenders Refugees People with substance misuse needs People with multiple needs, including mental health needs People with challenging behaviour(s) Residents are referred via the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. Once, accommodated, they will undergo a full assessment by our experienced staff, intended to identify support needs. We work in collaboration with community partners to provide risk management, support treatment, therapies, delivery of and access to interventions, and a safe environment for residents to learn and exercise new skills. ABOUT YOU You will be creative and able to support and implement new ideas and initiatives, being a team player and able to communicate effectively with people from different backgrounds You will be able to use your own lived experience to support and empower others, whilst recognising the diversity of experience and journeys that our residents and participants have. OVERVIEW OF KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Support our residents to achieve their personal goals, in line with their support plan, liaising with internal and external professionals.
Plan, implement and promote a range of internal and external activities and programme opportunities. Empower our residents and participants to make decisions and take control over their lives, by creating a positive and enabling environment. Recognise signs of deteriorating mental health or general wellbeing, initiative appropriate support and interventions. Support the team, residents and participants with knowledge of your own lived experience, coping mechanisms, and other relevant information and guidance.
Deliver harm reduction advice and educate others whilst working alongside professionals. Other responsibilities than those described above may be required to be undertaken from time to time and will be expected to be performed to as long as it is within the capability and level of the position. Please refer to the JDPS attached. KEY CRITERIA What we are looking for: Lived experience For example personal experience with Mental Health; Alcohol and Substance Misuse; Offending Behaviour; Homelessness; and other life experiences which could be used to support those with Multiple Complex Needs.
