**Job Description: Sessional Contact Worker - Observing Contact Between Children and Family Members**
**Position Overview**: We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Sessional Contact Worker to facilitate and observe supervised contact sessions between children and their family members. As a vital member of our team, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the safety and well-being of the children while supporting positive interactions during these sessions.
This role is for variable hours and would work well for applicants seeking a second income or only wanting occasional hours initially.
**Key Responsibilities**:
1. **Supervised Contact Sessions**: Facilitate and observe contact sessions between children and their family members, ensuring a safe and nurturing environment for all parties involved.
2. **Safety Monitoring**: Maintain vigilant awareness of the interactions, identifying any signs of distress, discomfort, or potential risks. Intervene when necessary to ensure the emotional and physical well-being of the children.
3. **Documentation**: Accurately document observations of each contact session, recording behaviours, interactions, and any noteworthy incidents or concerns. Complete reports promptly and maintain confidential records.
4. **Communication**: Communicate effectively with the team, including social workers, case managers, and legal professionals, to provide feedback on the progress and dynamics observed during contact sessions.
**5.** **Child-Focused Approach**:Promote positive interactions that prioritise the best interests of the children. Encourage respectful and constructive communication between family members.
**6.** **Crisis Management**:Possess the ability to handle challenging situations with composure and professionalism. Implement de-escalation techniques when required to maintain a safe environment.
**7.** **Adherence to Policies**:Ensure strict adherence to established policies and procedures, including those related to child protection, confidentiality, and ethical conduct.
**8.** **Professional Development**:Attend training sessions and workshops to enhance skills in child protection, conflict resolution, and observation techniques.
**Qualifications and Skills**:
- Relevant experience / qualifications in child care, social work, or related fields are advantageous.
- Experience working with children and families, particularly in a supervised contact setting, or residential setting.
- Excellent observation skills, with the ability to accurately record interactions and behaviours.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with diverse individuals.
- Empathy, patience, and a child-focused approach to interactions.
- Knowledge of child protection policies and procedures.
- Crisis management skills and the ability to stay composed under pressure.
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and professional boundaries.
- Flexibility in working hours, as contact sessions may occur during evenings and weekends.
