This post offers an excellent opportunity for an experienced health service researcher with particular interest in clinical research, to join our research unit at Yeovil District Hospital. The main purpose of this job is to embed clinical research practice within the surgical department at YDH and work with Professor Nader Francis on an exciting project. There is part funding from ERAS UK and part funding from the Clinical Research Unit at Yeovil District Hospital.
Professor Francis’ s research project will provide you with first hand experience, of the research process of RCTs and running a multi centred study across the UK. You will have an excellent opportunity to enhance communication and interpersonal skills and gain experience in working with a multi-disciplinary team within the Hospital and other specialist units around the country.
The appointee will be based within the Clinical Research Department of Yeovil District Hospital working with the designated research nurse and must be willing to be flexible, as it may involve collecting data from other centres and / or working some for the time in London at the Northwick park Institute For Medical Research (The Griffin Institute) along with Professor Francis.
- Collecting clinical data of a perioperative optimisation of anaemia among colorectal cancer patients study.
- Increase the recruitment to surgical trials for YDH.
- Undertaking literature reviews in the area of perioperative optimization of anaemia and hypophosphatemia.
- Support surgical research studies at YDH.
- Reporting closely to the chief investigator and the academic supervisor as well as other member of project steering committee.
- Ensure all Ethics and Regulatory submissions completed and approvals gained before the trial commences.
- Organising the agendas and reports for the trial management meetings as well as a monitoring plan for the conduct of the study.
- Identifying and consenting recruiting participants potentially eligible for trial entry.
- Conducting qualitative aspects of the trial embedded within the recruitment process.
- Collecting outcome data from the recruiting centres.
- Performing sites check on quality of data collection.
- Carrying out data analysis and publishing results in peer-review journals.
- Completing the interim and final reports of the anaemia study.
