You will provide support with day to day activities, whilst encouraging and promoting independent living. Our teams provide care and support for individuals with different conditions at Priory sites all across the UK.

It would be ideal if you have previous experience gained in a similar role. However whilst this is valuable, we are looking for individuals who display the right values and behaviours in order to make a difference to people’s lives. You should be keen to learn and show compassion to care for the people we support. **Responsibilities**:

- Support our residents with in-house activities and hobbies
- Providing support to achieve every day goals including personal care tasks, such as washing, dressing, eating and toileting
- Manage some behaviours that challenge
- Assistant and support to attend medical appointments
- Observe, monitor and record physical and emotional well-being, and promptly report any changes to senior staff
- Provide emotional support to individuals and their families
- Support and monitor healthcare needs, including administering medication and temperature checks
- Understand communication needs and adapt your communication to each individual
- Work with other professionals, such as nurses and therapists, to ensure consistency of support
- Analyse an individual’s needs and draw up a focused support plan

**Qualifications and Skills**
- GCSE in English and Maths or an NVQ L1 in Adult Care or Healthcare
- Excellent interpersonal skills and a caring nature
- Empathy, understanding and patience
- Ability to work on your own and as part of a team
- Ability to understand and follow policies and procedure
- The ability to anticipate and respond to challenges
- Competent in verbal and written English
- A healthcare qualification is desirable, but not essential

**Location information**:
Based in the residential area of Earlsheaton, Dewsbury, West Yorkshire, Priory Hospital Dewsbury provides 32 beds, divided into two 16-bed wards for male patients who have mental health disorders. We also offer neuropsychiatry support, support for older people and dementia, community-focused rehabilitation, and support for severe and enduring mental health.
