Speech and Language Therapist Band 5

If so come and join a supportive and dynamic Integrated Children and Young People’s Therapies team in Buckinghamshire who are dedicated to move you through your first year competencies and beyond.

We have a strong commitment to supporting our newly qualified band 5 therapists to develop your clinical and professional skills both face to face and via teletherapy in order to achieve your competencies within your first year. We are an unique service in having a Practice Development Therapist who works very closely with team leads and supports the staff across all therapies.

A comprehensive induction supported by the Practice Development Therapist

A 2 year Trust Preceptorship programme to develop professional confidence, skills, values and behaviours to continue on a journey of life long learning within Bucks

Regular clinical supervision, one to one and peer groups focused to newly qualified and band 5s

Access to a variety of CPD sessions on specific clinical areas supported by Clinical Leads

Clinical and caseload discussions with senior colleagues

Coaching, mentoring and access to external courses

Attendance at regional and national CEN meetings

The post is locality team based in Aylesbury. As a newly qualified therapist you would be given a mainstream school aged caseload for 3 days of your week, alongside 2 days CPD to develop competencies and shadowing for the first year with the aim to develop interests in different parts of the service. Caseload allocations are caped to allow NQTs the ability to acquire necessary competencies within the first year.

This is a jointly commissioned service that will give you the opportunity to use your innovative and dynamic SLT skills to influence the delivery of high quality, evidence based interventions for children and young people in Buckinghamshire.

We use a wide variety of evidence-based therapy approaches with children. For example, staff are trained to use Attention Autism by Gina Davies, Shape Coding by Susan Ebbels ® (Ebbels 2007), Lego therapy (LeGoff 2004), Active Listening for Active Learning (Maggie Johnson and Carolyn Player) and Word Aware (Stephen Parsons and Anna Brannagan). Therapy is delivered individually, in groups or flexibly as the child and setting require.

Award winning and evidence based programmes, Speech Link and Infant Language Link, are commissioned to every key stage 1 setting across Buckinghamshire and supports a graduated approach to therapy delivery alongside our school advice sessions and webinars.
