Health and Safety Advisor

Hillhouse Group is a family-owned business operating throughout Scotland. The company is a major supplier of aggregates, asphalt, readymix concrete, concrete products and road surfacing and civil engineering services to the construction industry and civil engineering sectors.
We are seeking experienced Safety Advisor to join our team. The Safety Advisor will be responsible for overseeing the safety and compliance of all site operations, ensuring that the company adheres to legal and industry health and safety regulations. You will work closely with site teams, management, and contractors to create and maintain a safe working environment, preventing accidents and promoting a culture of safety awareness across all operations.
This role will cover our sites in Greater Glasgow, Ayrshire and the East Coast.
**Main Duties and Responsibilities**:
**Health and Safety Compliance**:
- Ensure compliance with all relevant health and safety legislation, regulations, and company policies on quarry and associated sites.
- Conduct regular safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments to identify potential hazards.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of health and safety laws, industry best practices, and emerging safety trends.
**Safety Planning & Risk Assessment**:
- Develop and implement safety policies, procedures, and risk assessments for specific site activities, ensuring that all safety measures are followed.
- Review and advise on method statements, risk assessments, and safe working practices.
- Ensure proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) across the workforce.
**Incident Investigation & Reporting**:
- Lead investigations into workplace accidents, near misses, and unsafe working conditions.
- Prepare detailed reports and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Maintain accurate records of incidents, audits, and inspections.
**Training & Development**:
- Provide safety training and induction sessions for new staff, contractors, and visitors.
- Ensure that the workforce is regularly updated on safety protocols, hazard awareness, and emergency procedures.
- Develop and deliver targeted training programs on specialized safety topics related to construction and quarry operations.
**Safety Culture & Engagement**:
- Foster a proactive safety culture, encouraging employees at all levels to actively engage in safety practices.
- Participate in safety meetings, toolbox talks, and safety campaigns.
- Promote the importance of safety and well-being across the workforce and demonstrate leadership in safety performance.
**Regulatory Liaison & Reporting**:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for external safety bodies, regulatory agencies, and third-party safety consultants.
- Prepare and submit health and safety reports to management, clients, and relevant authorities as required.
**Skills and Qualifications**:
**Education**:
- NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent) or a related health and safety qualification.
- Understanding and knowledge of the Health and Safety at Quarries Regulations 1999, or a related field (desirable).
**Experience**:
- Minimum of 1-3 years’ experience as a Safety Advisor within the construction, quarrying, or heavy industry sector.
- Experience in risk management, accident investigation, and safety audits.
**Skills**:
- In-depth knowledge of health and safety legislation, risk assessments, and hazard management.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to influence at all levels.
- Excellent attention to detail and strong problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and safety management software.
**Certifications**:
- NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent (required).
- IOSH Membership (desirable).
- First Aid and CPR Certification (desirable).
- Driving licence (required).
