We are looking for an experience accessibility lead who can help us deliver accessible and inclusive digital services for our users.

**Job description**:
You will lead our accessibility auditing and assurance team, ensuring we provide high quality accessibility audits and support for our digital delivery teams;
You will lead a team of front-end developers, providing technical direction and supporting their professional development;
You will help raise awareness of accessibility within our project teams and the wider organisation, ensuring that we design accessibility and inclusion into our services from the outset.

You will be an experienced accessibility specialist and confident leader, with the ability to explain accessibility requirements to senior civil servants and delivery teams alike.

You will be comfortable working with a range of internal and external partners and be able to quickly build credibility, influence and deliver results.

You will be an experienced team leader with a track record of developing people to become future leaders in the accessibility field

You will be able to talk technical when it matters, but with the ability to engage and influence non-technical stakeholders

You will have the drive and passion to work at pace, making decisions and maximising our positive impact as a team

**Person specification**:
**Responsibilities**
- Lead a team of front-end developers to provide high-quality accessibility testing services to our delivery teams, programmes and portfolios;
- Provide technical leadership on accessibility matters, helping to create and update team standards and policies;
- Continuously improve our internal processes to deliver high-quality audit reports and support to our project teams;
- Future-proof our auditing service by ensuring that we have knowledge of new technologies adopted by our delivery teams;
- Build and maintain relationships with senior stakeholders, concerned with diversity, inclusion and access for digital services;
- Develop an expert understanding of users’ needs and champion these in the delivery of our products;
- Play an active role in the HMRC and government accessibility communities, sharing your learning and celebrating progress made by other people and teams.

**Skills & Experience**

**Essential Skills**
- Demonstrable knowledge of accessible digital design standards and principles;
- Technical development in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, and a good working knowledge of modern front-end web development
- Knowledge of disability law, including the Public Sector Bodies Accessibility Regulations 2018, the Equality Act 2010 and the Disability Discrimination Act 1995;
- Experience of testing digital services using the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, including sharing the outputs and supporting remediation efforts;
- Leading and managing teams; directing the high-quality output of others whilst creating a collaborative, inclusive environment;
- Setting direction - making decisions, evaluating priorities and contributing to strategic discussions at a senior level;
- Building and managing key stakeholder relationships, ensuring good working relationships are maintained.

**Desirable skills and experience**
- Experience of working in government.

**Technical Skills**

We'll assess you against these technical skills during the selection process:

- Good understanding of WCAG 2.2
- Expert knowledge of accessibility regulations and the Government Service Standard
- Testing digital products and services using assistive technologies
