This is a very exciting post working with 2 Oculoplastic consultants to help develop the oculoplastic service here at Somerset Foundation Hospital. The oculoplastic team also have an experience practitioner support this service.
You will be working with a team of 12 Consultants, 2 associated specialist, 8 Registrars and 11 Practitioners
The Department of Ophthalmology is based at Musgrove Park Hospital and provides a comprehensive ophthalmology service to the population of North, West and South Somerset, numbering approximately 544,000.
The population has been increasing due to developments in the area in the last 10 years. Outpatient clinics, and all surgery, are undertaken at Musgrove Park Hospital. Peripheral clinics are held at Bridgwater, Minehead, Chard, and Burnham on Sea Community Hospitals.
You will be joining an NHS Trust that is one of only 12 Global Digital Exemplars in the country - that is also implementing the Medisight EPR - and has recently received a ‘Good’ rating from the CQC.
This job plan is provided to outline the basis on which this post will be established and will alter as the service develops. This is a 10 PA job plan.
1. The post is that of a whole-time consultant in ophthalmology,
based at Musgrove Park Hospital, however we also run a theatre at Minehead Hospital for oculoplastic
2. Participation in provision of a General Ophthalmology service including involvement in the Eye Health Network and cataract surgery.
3. Participation in the Primary Care/Acute Referral Service for Ophthalmology.
4. Participation in the emergency / on-call rota for Ophthalmology on a 1 in 16 basis
5. Participation in administration of the above.
6. Involvement in Supervision /teaching of trainees.

To provide, to a high standard, the full range of specialist diagnosis, treatment and care to patients requiring Ophthalmology services.
To be responsible for the diagnosis and treatment of patients in Musgrove Park Hospital in conjunction with the Consultants in the Ophthalmology Department.
Except in emergencies or where otherwise agreed with your manager, you will be responsible for fulfilling the duties and responsibilities and undertaking the Programmed Activities set out in your Job Plan, as reviewed from time to time.
The purpose of including agreed personal objectives in your Job Plan is to set out in clear and transparent terms what you and your clinical manager have agreed should reasonably be achieved in the year in question.
