The Pathology departments at North Tees and South Tees hospitals are working collaboratively to develop a joint service with services being delivered on both hospital sites. This will require cross site working as appropriate.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and enthusiastic Healthcare Science Support Worker (Higher), within the laboratory team working in the Cellular Pathology Department.

The main purpose of the role will be to assist Biomedical Scientists and Pathologists to provide a diagnostic service. Specific duties will include: assisting at specimen dissections, providing support to ensure efficient work flow, maintaining some laboratory equipment and general housekeeping tasks throughout the laboratory.

The successful applicant must have excellent organisational skills, effective interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work using their own initiative, to meet tight deadlines.

The department is moving towards a 7 day service (7am-6pm Mon-Fri and 7am - 4pm weekends) and the post holder is expected to work flexibly within these hours.

**Main role includes**:
The post holder will work as part of a dedicated, multi-skilled and flexible team of staff in order to provide an efficient, high quality service to the department.

The post holder will follow an in-house competency training programme and after suitable training and competency assessment will work on a rotational basis performing an extensive range of laboratory support tasks and assisting consultant and technical staff in the preparation of histological and cytological specimens.

The post holder will work under direct and indirect supervision always following laboratory standard operating procedures (SOP’s).

The post holder will be expected to deal with direct queries from Medical Staff, Nursing Staff and other Service Users including telephone enquiries and taking appropriate action as necessary.

This role may include the training and supervision of other scientific and administrative staff.

The post holder will be expected to assist in the monitoring, organisation and working of the department.

The post holder must demonstrate a commitment to abide by the Departmental, Trust and NHS values and Constitution.
