**Main purpose of the Health & Safety Advisor**:
The role of Health and Safety Advisor is to be the primary contact on Health and Safety matters for contact for staff, visitors and contractors over the three Centres. Ensuring a healthy and safe environment that is compliant with legislative requirements and best practice for the staff, volunteers, animals, and visitors.

**Overall objectives of the Health & Safety Advisor**:

- Provide a customer focussed Health and Safety advisory service.
- Provide appropriate information and training to staff and volunteers on health and safety issues, ensuring that training meets legislative requirements and best practice.
- To be the primary contact for staff, visitors and contractors regarding health and safety issues over all three sites.
- To investigate accidents/incidents that occur across all sites and establish root causes, instigating remedial actions, reporting and following up with Health and Safety Executive as appropriate and updating Head of Estates, Facilities and Safety, SMG and Directors as required.

**Responsibilities of the Health & Safety Advisor**:

- Primary contact for health and safety advice and guidance across Battersea based on best practice and current legislation, including regular meetings with Centre Managers, Team Leaders, Academy and Grants, and other relevant staff, to review any health and safety issues, providing guidance and any training required.
- Review, advise and prepare risk assessments/SOPs for activities across Battersea, ensuring required control measures are in place and assessments are documented, recorded, regularly reviewed (by the appropriate teams) and kept up to date (e.g. COSHH, fire, operational ways of working) recommending actions to ensure compliance is achieved and following up actions as appropriate
- Develop a health and safety strategy, and an associated annual work programme, review and update the overarching H&S policy and prepare policies and procedures for Battersea to meet statutory obligations. Collect data, research and prepare H&S management reports, including accidents/incidents, fire safety, compliance with legislation, etc, highlighting any trends to managers, working with them to ensure required remedial actions are determined, implemented and outcomes monitored
- Keep up to date with new legislation and maintain a working knowledge of all Health and Safety Executive legislation and any developments that affect Battersea’s work. Ensure all documents are kept up to date and compliant with relevant legislation and statutory requirements, highlighting any gaps and drafting new policies to meet the changing operational needs. Undertake required CPD including via events/training to ensure skills and knowledge are up to date.
- Undertake Health and Safety audits across the three Centres in accordance with an agreed programme, legislative requirements, etc ensuring systems are in place for recording required documentation, which is available for inspection at all times, e.g., fire safety, water quality testing, LOLER, etc in order to ensure and demonstrate compliance, prepare management reports on outcome and monitor and work with colleagues to ensure all remedial actions are undertaken in an effective and timely manner.
- Ensure appropriate procedures and induction are in place to ensure all contractors meet health and safety compliance, including RAMS, permits to work and licences, and are signed off and recorded, undertake spot checks of work undertaken as appropriate, and that any required remedial works are undertaken in a timely manner.
- As a member of the BCP Gold Team, prepare and review risk assessments (e.g. Covid), to ensure that procedures and control measures are developed and implemented to provide a secure environment across the three Centres. Research for and prepare management reports to ensure the Gold Team are kept up to date with changes in Government guidelines, and work with Internal Communications to ensure updates are provided to staff in a timely manner, monitoring and ensuring compliance across the three Centres
- Line management of the Laundry and Hygiene team, ensuring that there is always sufficient clean laundry available to the Kennels and Cattery and that the site is maintained in a manner that supports high standards of infection control.
- Work with stakeholders, senior management and key colleagues across Battersea to ensure that all functions and activities are delivered in a manner that supports wellbeing and promotes best health and safety practices for all on site across the organisation.
