- The post holder will provide a specialist translation service from English to Welsh and from Welsh to English to enable the Health Board to implement the principle that it will not treat Welsh less favourably than English, in accordance with Welsh Language legislation and the Welsh Language Standards.
- The post holder will provide advice, guidance and support to colleagues including Board Members, Executive Director for People and Corporate Functions on matters involving Welsh language policy.
- This role will provide support to the Welsh Language Lead and the Senior Executive Team in the development and delivery of the Welsh language agenda.
- The post holder will help to deliver a comprehensive Welsh language service in line with Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board’s Welsh language policies and procedures and the Welsh Language Standards.
- Developing and managing our translation service, including line management and professional development of the translation team
- Ensuring the full and appropriate use of translation technology in all aspects of the work of the Welsh Translation Team
- Providing a high-quality and professional translation service, and ensuring quality control and safety in terms of written work in Welsh
- Giving advice to staff on Welsh language policy within primary and secondary care
- Supporting cultural change work in various ways with our staff
- Monitoring compliance throughout the Health Board and Primary Care
- Deputising for the Welsh Language Lead where required

- To provide a high quality professional translation service requiring fluency, extensive and enhanced knowledge of the Welsh Language as well as the English Language.
- To translate complex and sensitive Health Board level documents such as the Annual Report, Policies e.g. Equality and Diversity Policy, etc.
- To translate documents/letters of correspondence (e.g. complaint letters, press releases etc.) on behalf of the Chief Executive’s Office involving tight deadlines and often complex/sensitive information such as the care and treatment given to a patient(s), complex assessments, medical records etc.
- To work closely and alongside the Health Board’s Communication Team in providing bilingual information for publication via the organisation’s internet/intranet and social media.
- To co-ordinate and process all translation requests without supervision, ensuring requests are recorded and are managed effectively within agreed timescales.
- To plan and prioritise translation work as the workload demands, proof read, formulate, review and correct bilingual documentation as necessary.
- To arrange suitable external simultaneous/consecutive translation service for high level events, meetings and patient appointments.
- To create and maintain a database of internal and external translation work carried out and be responsible for producing and maintaining quarterly analytical report of all translation work received for the attention of the Welsh Language Services Manager.
- To manage and maintain a detailed record of expenditure incurred via external translation services, to ensure spend remains within specified budget. This will include monitoring an SLA arrangement for translation.
- To develop auditing and monitoring procedures for translation across all departments in relation to the Welsh Language Standards requirements.
- To attend any relevant meetings in the absence of the Welsh Language Services Manager
- To assist the Welsh Language Team in promoting the use of the Welsh Language across the Health Board.
- To support the Welsh Language Lead in monitoring the implementation of the Health Board’s Welsh language policies and procedures.
- To provide cover for the Welsh Language Manager in their absence highlighting any urgent issues.
- To provide advice and specialist training regarding access to internal and external services, sharing knowledge, skills and experience with other Health Board staff.
