**Job description**:
The University of Glasgow is seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Creative Practice in Music (Learning, Teaching & Scholarship Track) within the School of School of Culture & Creative Arts.
- This is a job that would suit a creative practitioner in Music wishing to develop a part-time career in a Higher Education institution that builds upon their expertise in music industries and scenes._
**Job Purpose**
**Main Duties and Responsibilities**
1. Deliver a range of teaching, supervision and assessment activities across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes within the Subject/School.
2. Develop effective working relationships with students and, in partnership with relevant student services teams and staff at the School of Culture and Creative Arts, respond appropriately to the diverse range of learning approaches and learner needs.
3. Contribute to the on-going development and design of the curriculum in a manner that supports a research-led and scholarly approach to student learning and assessment in the discipline and/or profession.
4. Make effective use of learning technologies to support and enhance course delivery, course organisation, feedback and assessment.
5. Carry out course administration within required timescales ensuring effective communication of information, in particular assessment requirements and criteria, and timely and constructive feedback on assessment.
6. Ensure an inclusive and evidence-based approach to facilitating learning in a range of face to face and potentially online delivery formats such as coached rehearsals, workshops, masterclasses, individual progress meetings, peer review and reflection, tutorials and lectures, that promotes student participation and learning outcome attainment.
8. Develop relationships with external stakeholders, particularly within the music industries in Glasgow, Scotland and beyond, in support of teaching and learning activities, knowledge exchange, public understanding and appropriate forms of outreach such as widening access.
9. Participate in local, and potentially overseas, activities associated with student recruitment (e.g. open days), orientation and induction and other School and University initiatives such as support for student transitions, employability and student mobility as appropriate.
10. Engage in continuing professional development activities as appropriate.
11. Undertake any other reasonable duties as required by the Head of School.
12. To contribute to the enhancement of the University’s international profile in line with the University’s Strategic Plan, World Changers Together.
**Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience**
**Knowledge/ Qualifications**
**Essential**:
A1 Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 12 (PhD) or equivalent in a related discipline and/or teaching experience.
A5 Knowledge of the music industries and freelance music communities in Glasgow and Scotland.
A6 Specialist knowledge of and expertise in at least two broad musical genres/styles, e.g.: Western classical; jazz; trad; folk/world musics; popular music; musical theatre; electronic music, etc.
A7 Confidence in assessing student creative practice and providing feedback across a range of genres and styles.
A8 Understanding of how Creative Practice in Music is taught and assessed in a Higher Education/University context.
**Desirable**:
B1 Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 11 (Postgraduate taught degree) or equivalent in Teaching Skills.
**Skills**
**Essential**:
C1 Ability to communicate material of a specialist or highly technical nature and to be effective both orally and in writing at a level appropriate to the activity.
C2 Ability to coach music ensembles comprised of students with varying interests and styles.
C3 Ability to support students in developing professional working relationships with freelance instrumental and vocal teachers.
C4 Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in a higher education environment, establishing working relationships with academic colleagues, professional services staff and external stakeholders.
C5 Ability to identify (including at short notice) professional opportunities within the Glasgow music scene that could enhance student employability and graduate attributes, and to disseminate them among students with the help of colleagues at the School of Culture and Creative Arts.
C6 Ability to identify connections and synergies between Creative Practice/Performance courses and other aspects of learning and teaching at the School of Culture and Creative Arts (e.g. Musicology; Music Industries), as well as music-focused public engagement activities within the University (e.g. Music in the University).
