**The Role**
Reporting to the Science Director, you are responsible for leading scientific writing and counsel for your allocated brands. This will include researching and developing technical material, and ensuring that all output adheres to written brief, is accurate in content and editorial style and can be referenced. You will also be working closely with Creative Writers and Art Directors as well as other colleagues in Strategic Planning, User Experience, Client Service, and Project Management to produce scientifically robust, creative communication pieces across a wide range of media. You will be working across various therapy areas, including respiratory, dermatology, endocrinology, and rare diseases.
**Experience**
- PhD level qualification in a biological/medical discipline essential.
- 6 years minimum agency experience - preferably in healthcare agencies for pharma.
- Brand communication writing experience essential (in addition to any experience in medical communication) - including brand promotional materials, disease state education / awareness and patient communications.
- Able to independently write scientific content development and lead scientific strategy for a brand.
**Skills Required**:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills - particularly with regard to verbalising scientific content and 'translating' the essence of data to other members of the team.
- Excellent and versatile scientific writing and editing ability.
- Excellent organisational skills.
- Very comfortable in a client-facing role.
- Flexibility, adaptability and resourcefulness.
- Excellent quality control skills and meticulous eye for detail - style/consistency, grammar, scientific accuracy, proof-reading, layout, etc.
- Interest in therapy area research and insight generation.
- Happy working collaboratively in a diverse, multifunctional brand communication agency team, including creative copy writers.
- Presentation experience in pitches / project proposals / client workshops strongly preferred.
- Flexibility and ability to manage simultaneous priorities and changing deadlines.
- IT skills - Word, PowerPoint, internet searching.
- Line management experience preferred (but not essential).
- Behaviour change experience a bonus (but not essential).
**Specific Responsibilities**
**Marketing Insight and Business Awareness**
- Demonstrate a clear understanding of the principles behind pharmaceutical marketing.
- Demonstrate broad awareness of market place issues for your accounts.
- Demonstrate active interest in therapy areas associated with your accounts and ability to offer analysis and generate insights.
**Strategic Input into Accounts and Pitches**
- Demonstrate a clear understanding of communications strategies and the understanding that these should drive our approach to tactics and content.
- Participate in research, brainstorms and other strategic meetings and offer proactive advice in line with brand strategies.
- Participate in pitch development and delivery as well as identification of new and organic business opportunities.
**Science Writing Skills**
- Competent use of grammar, sentence construction and punctuation.
- Ability to express scientific data in a cogent manner in a variety of sales materials.
- Demonstrate understanding of the need and ability to adapt materials to suit the target audience and the type of medium being used.
- Demonstrate excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to learn and adapt quickly to new therapy areas.
- Highly competent in cross-referencing and production of reference packs.
- Understanding of the fundamentals of statistics and clinical trials.
- Proficient understanding of the ABPI and EFPIA codes of practice.
- Work in a code compliant manner.
- Demonstrate ability to work effectively and flexibly with creative writing/artistic/design/digital colleagues to deliver synergistic creative solutions.
