Marine Assurance Officer
The role
As a Marine Assurance Officer, you are an operational independent adviser, auditor and coach for the Company and vessels on matters related to marine assurance. You provide day-to-day QHSSE advice and active assistance within the Vessel Management Team, vessel and project. In this role you ensure that all onshore and offshore activities are carried out with the highest regard to the health and safety involved to the protection of the environment and prevention of pollution.
Within the role you will advise Vessel Manager and Masters on maritime regulations and the interpretation thereof to ensure Flag State compliance. You will Implement vessel safety rules and practices in line with the Fugro Fleet Integrated Management System to promote safety on our vessels, and leading by example towards compliance through a positive and safe attitude & through contributing to the health, safety and environmental awareness of all employees by coaching and advice. Develop and implement procedures, standards and guidelines is key to that ensure vessel operations are controlled and performed in a manner that meets Company goals and regulatory safety and sustainability requirements.
You are an important member of the QHSSE department within Fugro Fleet Services. Within this team, you will be part of a smaller Vessel Management Team based in Aberdeen who are combined responsible in the safe and efficient operation of Fugro owned vessels. Being a team player and believing in team work is essential for this role.
When working with Fugro, no two days are the same. On one day you could be preparing a vessel for an external inspection and on another day you could be investigating an incident on board another vessel.

Who you’ll be working with:
Daily, you will be working in close liaison with the Vessel Managers, Masters, members of the shipboard management team and QHSSE department within Fugro Fleet Services. There is regular interaction with Project Managers and Project QHSSE department as well.
Here’s what a typical day would be like:
- You conduct internal and external assurance and navigational audits, third party marine inspections and incident investigations on sea-going vessels, and monitoring corrective actions where required;
- You develop and implement procedures, standards and guidelines that ensure vessel operations are in compliance with Fugro safety and environmental standards and regulations at all times, and in line with our clients’ and local international legal maritime requirements;
- You advise the Company, on and offshore, on maritime regulations and the interpretation thereof to ensure Flag State compliance and other maritime regulations and standards;
- You take care of regular and timely reporting, administrating, updating and controlling all responsibilities through our management system.
Who we’re looking for:
Essential
- Academic / higher professional education and / or working level and previous experience as a 2nd officer or higher rank preferably in the offshore industry with Dynamic Positioning experience;
- Onshore experience in a similar role;
- Sound knowledge of International Maritime legislation (ISM, ISPS, MLC, ISO etc.), as well as versed in HSSE regulations;
- You focus on continuous improvement and are HSSE performance driven;
- A person who takes the lead in continuously rethinking what we do and how we do it, aimed at further expanding our contribution to a safe and liveable world, now and in the future.
- An excellent communicator (verbally and written) and able to form good working relationships with clients and colleagues at all levels;
- Disciplined, self-motivated and flexible team player.
Desirable:
- You have an Internal Auditor qualification, NEBOSH international diploma or equivalent is preferred.
