My client who are from the Hospitality and Catering background are looking for a Health & Safety Officer to them in their Reading office.

**Client Details**

My client are looking for a Health and Safety Officer to advise and assist the Senior Management Team across three hospitals which are based in Reading/Chiltern(Great Missenden)/Shelburne (High Wycombe).

**Description**

The key responsibilities of a Health and Safety Officer:

- To carry out duties and provide advice which support the site's compliance with Health, Safety and Environmental policies, legislation and related guidance
- Identify and when appropriate, escalate inadequately controlled H&S risks to the Operational Manager/Director
- To make recommendations for improvement to meet legislative compliance
- To maintain and make contribution towards the development of a site action plan detailing proposed improvements in standards of health and safety.
- Advise HODs or their delegates on the completion of suitable & sufficient Risk Assessments e.g., COSHH, Manual Handling
- To assist with H&S regulator inspections or queries and corporate visit in providing assurance of H&S compliance to such stakeholders
- Monthly record on a spreadsheet the site's level of health and safety compliance including the completion of: all departmental H&S inspection checklist, water flushing, fire drills, health and safety audit status, outstanding regulatory notices and suchsimilar KPIs as appropriate each month
- To review completed checklists and provide advice on the identification of risks and corrective actions as required. Significant non compliances in either completing the checklists or outstanding actions should be escalated to the Ops Dir/Manager.
- Support the implementation of corporate H&S related objectives and initiatives including campaigns, Policy roll outs, Safety Alerts, inspections, audits, and to join regional H&S Forums, working groups and conference calls
- To assist in incident and accident investigations and to identify the immediate, underlying and root causes and make recommendations to prevent reoccurrence
- To identify any emerging incident trends and areas of particular risk
- To attend H&S related meetings and provide committees with relevant updates, reports, and dataTo record monthly
- Assist with contractor inductions, issuing authorisations/permits to work, site rules, reviewing contractor/supplier health & safety documentation i.e., Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS) and to escalate technical queries to the Regional Health& Safety and Engineering Managers
- Monitor contractor adherence to RAMS, Permit to Work (PtW) and general standards in H&S working practices and to report and escalate significant shortfalls
- Liaise with the Regional Health & Safety Manager prior to reporting RIDDOR events and related investigations
- To identify H&S gaps in competencies/capabilities and support development and completion of training to meet the local Training Needs Analysis (TNA)
- Be the Fire Safety Manager (or assist the site Fire Safety Manager (FSM) if the HS&E Lead is the Deputy Fire Safety Manager) and SMT maintain up to date Fire Risk Assessment (FRA) & action plans and completing effective evacuation strategies and fire safetydrills
- To periodically review facilities services H&S related compliance e.g., completion of TMV PPMs, bed PPMs, statutory inspections of plant and equipment
- To ensure that the conditions of the site Trade Effluent Consent are met (if applicable)
- To take the local lead in implementing corporate environmental initiatives as awareness campaigns
- To maintain and communicate the site Green Action plan
- In consultation with both the Health and Safety Co-ordinator/Lead and HIPCL ensure local Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) reflect corporate policy
- To undertake the annual site environmental risk assessment with the support of the Waste Management Officer

**Profile**

The successful applicant for the Health and Safety Officer role:

- NEBOSH Certificate or equivalent
- H&S professional registration (IOSH) or willing to apply
- Fire Safety Skills
- Able to influence and persuade
- Ability to interpret Health & Safety legislation
- Must have Risk Assessor experience
- Experience in dealing with Incident investigation skill
- Good Audit experience

**Job Offer**

The successful applicant for the Health and Safety Officer role will be rewarded with a salary of up to £38000 plus additional company perks
