**About us**

Our goal is to reduce loneliness amongst older people by bringing generations together in friendship and shared experiences. Re-engage provides vital, life-enhancing social connections for older people at a time in their lives when their social circles are diminishing.

**Become a Volunteer Driver**:
As a volunteer driver you will be picking up one to two activity guests from their homes so they can attend our activity-based groups. Our groups run on a monthly or fortnightly basis.As you can imagine, these outings are the highlight for many of our activity guests and, for some, it is the only time they leave their house for a social occasion.You will be required to complete a DBS check for this role, for which Re-engage will cover the cost.

**Tasks include**:

- Driving one to two activity guests, using your own car, to the venue and returning them home again after the activity.
- Staying at the group to help with activities, conversation and serving refreshments.
- Liaising with the group coordinator to confirm which activity guests you will pick up.
- Keeping the group coordinator informed of any concerns or issues you might have.

Re-engage groups have one to three regular drivers per group. As a driver you will usually collect the same one to two activity guests for each group. The groups are managed by the group coordinator who will work closely with you to ensure you have everything you need prior to you picking up the activity guests you support. You are not required to do any lifting. We welcome drivers with four door cars, a full driving license, MOT and insurance.

The dates for our groups are planned in advance and take place at the same venue. Your group coordinator will be your main contact and will make the overall arrangements of the activities.As a regular driver you are responsible for regular contact with your activity guests, checking that they are attending their group and arranging a good time to pick up them up.As a valued volunteer, you’ll receive training, support, and regular communications from the charity.

This is a fulfilling and enjoyable role which will enable you to develop your communication skills and gain valuable experience with a national charity and, most importantly, make a real difference to the lives of lonely older people. Unfortunately, we are unable to pay for your travel expenses.We are looking for volunteer drivers with the following skills and attributes:

- Excellent communication skills
- An enthusiasm for speaking to older people
- A friendly, empathetic approach
- The ability to really listen to people
- Patience
- A good sense of humour
- A passion for improving the lives of lonely and isolated older people
