**Are you an experienced field based Health & Safety Advisor within a retail environment? Do you thrive in a fast-paced, reactive environment? If so, this could be the role for you**

We have an opportunity for a Health & Safety Advisor to cover a region of our stores in the South, from Oxford down to Cornwall. You will need to be flexible to travel frequently and stay away overnight when required. Ideally you be based in the South /South West.

This is a full time, permanent position**.**

**The key activities will include**:

- Undertaking risk assessments and site inspections
- Ensuring that equipment is installed correctly/safely
- Identifying potential hazards and determining ways of reducing risks
- Writing internal health and safety policies/strategies
- Drawing-up safe operational practices and making necessary changes
- Investigating/recording incidents, accidents, complaints and cases of ill health
- Making presentations to groups of employees/managers
- Providing health and safety meetings and training courses for employees

**The role objectives are**:

- Ensure all Health and Safety Policies and practices are proportionate, realistic, in place and working effectively
- Prepare and advise on formal Risk Assessments
- Give clear advice on health and safety requirements in changes of working methods or physical changes being implemented within the business, and challenge and escalate if requirements not met
- Investigate as directed on Fire, Health and Safety incidents and accidents, and provide prompt and commercially astute recommendations to address root causes and reduce risk
- Prepare and submit RIDDOR reports to the HSE, or equivalent as necessary
- Be aware of changes in legislation and how they may impact on B&M, developing policies and procedures as a result

**The skills and experience required**:

- In depth knowledge of Health and Safety Law
- Extensive practical experience of health and safety in a multi-site capacity
- Large industry or retail experience preferred
- Chartered membership of IOSH, NEBOSH, IFE or other related professional body preferred
- Good level of experience in MS Word, Office, Excel and Power point
- Good judgement and awareness
- Able to solve complex problems and lead others to find commercially acceptable solutions
- Well organised and able to prioritise workload under pressure
- Strong communication skills, written and verbal
- Resilient and able to influence when dispensing tough advice, particularly at a senior level.
- Full UK Driving Licence required with the flexibility and willing to travel
