Alne Preschool Playgroup is excited to announce an opportunity for a dedicated and enthusiastic **Playgroup Assistant** to join our friendly team.

**Position Details**:
**Hours**: 30 hours per week across 3 days, with the opportunity for additional hours.

A **Level 3 Early Years Education and Childcare Qualification** is essential.

Our preschool operates from **7:45 AM to 6:00 PM**, Monday to Friday, including school holidays. We pride ourselves on offering a warm, supportive, and inclusive environment for both children and staff.

Job Title: Pre-school Playgroup Assistant

Responsible to: Pre-school Manager

Responsible for: No staffing responsibilities

Purpose of Job: To work as a key person and as part of the pre-school team under the direction of the Pre-school Manager to provide safe, high quality education and care for young children in a stimulating and enjoyable environment.

**MAIN DUTIES**:

- To assist with the planning of the curriculum.
- To help set up the playroom for the daily programme and to help tidy up at the end of the session, ensuring that all toys and equipment are clean and safe at all times.
- To act as a key person to a small group of children, liaising closely with parents/carers and ensuring each child’s needs are recognised and met.
- To advise the pre-school leader of any concerns e.g. over children, child protection, parents/carers or the safety of equipment. Preserving confidentiality as necessary.
- To teach children, offering an appropriate level of support and stimulation.
- To be aware of any special needs a child may have and to familiarise oneself with relevant play and learning plans.
- At lunch time to ensure the children’s hands are washed prior to eating and to sit with the children whilst they eat - encouraging social interaction and assisting children as required.
- To ensure that 2 adults remain with the children at all times during the lunch hour as required by Ofsted.
- To attend staff meetings.
- To keep completely confidential any information regarding the children, their families of other staff that is learned as part of the job.

**PERSON SPECIFICATION**

**Essential Criteria**:
1. A minimum Level 3 early years education and childcare qualification (NVQ 3, or equivalent) and a commitment to obtaining further qualifications as appropriate.

2. Commitment to safeguarding and experience of dealing with safeguarding issues.

3. Willingness to learn.

4. A satisfactory enhanced DBS with lists check which confirms suitability to work with children.

5. Commitment to young children and families.

6. Commitment to diversity and equal opportunities.

7. Friendly, flexible approach, ‘can do’ attitude.

8. Ability to work as part of a team and on own initiative
- This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (1974) and does require an enhanced DBS with lists check. Applicants must be prepared to disclose any convictions they may have and any orders which have been made against them._
