**Berneslai Homes** has an exciting opportunity for an **Asbestos Control Officer**to join their team based at **Gateway Plaza in Barnsley with the ability to work agilely.** You will be working on a **full-time, permanent** **basis (37 hours)** and in return, you will receive a **competitive salary of £32,798 to £35,336 per annum plus benefits.**

**The Asbestos Control Officer role**:
Your role will be to act as the named responsible person for the company under the Control of Asbestos at Work Regulations 2012. You will manage and co-ordinate asbestos surveys, plans and registers so as to ensure that our asbestos database informationis kept up to date, and liaise as appropriate with our partners, contractors and other external bodies on asbestos related matters.

You will also have a background of working in a similar role of managing asbestos within a domestic and non-domestic situation as well as a sound understanding of the Control of Asbestos at Work Regulations 2012 preferably within the Social Housing Sector.

**Key duties and responsibilities of our Asbestos Control Officer**:

- Act as the named responsible person for the company under the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012.
- Organise and manage asbestos surveys and asbestos removal works for all Berneslai Homes managed properties (domestic and non-domestic).
- Maintain computerised asbestos records of the Housing Stock and other premises managed by Berneslai Homes, to ensure that the asbestos database is kept fully up to date.
- To keep abreast of changes and inform Berneslai Homes of asbestos related legislation, standards and good practice.
- Ensure that asbestos information is available to anyone who is liable to work on or disturb it.
- Provide ongoing contact management for both asbestos surveying and removal contracts, including monitoring performance and measuring against contractual Key Performance Indicators.
- Review and monitor existing data, policies, plans and working arrangements to ensure that they remain relevant and up to date.
- Provide day-to-day technical advice to Berneslai Home’s staff, contractors and tenants on all Asbestos related matters.

**What we’re looking for in our Asbestos Control Officer**:

- Relevant professional qualification equivalent to NVQ level 4 or HNC.
- BOHS P402 Surveying and Sampling Strategies for Asbestos in Buildings (or equivalent).
- BOHS P405 Management of Asbestos in Buildings (including Asbestos Removal), or willingness to work towards.
- Ability to take the lead role in developing effective working relationships with Service Managers, Partners, Contractors, Consultants, Staff and Customers.
- The ability to effectively manage and develop relationships in order to maximise their contribution and effectiveness.
- Experience of working in a similar role of managing asbestos within domestic and non-domestic situations.
- Experience and knowledge of managing change and transforming business processes to improve business performance.
- Effective verbal and written communicator.
- Ability to read, interpret and understand technical documents including Approved Codes of Practice and Health and Safety plans.
