JOB PURPOSE

The purpose of the portering department is the transfer of patients, goods and any other items around the trust in a prompt, professional and efficient manner.

It is essential that all porters respond to requests for their services as quickly as possible in order to provide a positive patient experience in a safe professional manner and first-class service.

The Christie is an international leader in cancer research and development and the largest cancer treatment centre of its kind in Europe.

The Facilities division has a vacancy within the portering department. All work will be supported by risk assessments.

Responsibilities will include providing a full range of portering duties within the trust.

Applicants should be Smart, Flexible, Reliable, show initiative in all situations and have excellent Customer Service skills

Shift pattern working 5 days out of 7 inclusive of Sat/Sun

A/L 27 days plus B/H’s

PORTERING DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. To transfer all patients throughout the trust estate in a prompt, professional and efficient manner as requested using appropriate means of transport, using the portering management software TELETRACKING
2. To transfer goods throughout the trust estate in a prompt, professional and efficient manner using the portering management software TELETRACKING
3. The collection of specimens from wards/depts. and delivery to the laboratories in a prompt, professional and efficient manner using the portering management software TELETRACKING
4. The collection of blood products from the blood room and delivery to wards/depts. in a prompt, professional and efficient manner as per blood products transfusion training and procedures
5. The movement of deceased patients from the wards/depts. to the Mortuary in a prompt, professional and efficient manner always maintaining the respect and dignity of the patient
6. To carry the Emergency bleep as a part of the trust cardiac arrest team that attends when a patient has a cardiac arrest and ensure that any equipment required by clinical colleagues is available where it is required as soon as possible and to offer any assistance needed to clinical colleagues
7. The movement of furniture around the trust
8. The delivery of clean linen and collection of dirty linen
9. The removal of waste furniture and electrical items for disposal
10. The safe delivery, storage and correct segregation of full/empty medical gas cylinders
11. The movement of clinical equipment (such as pumps) to and from wards/departments as required in a prompt, professional and efficient manner
12. The movement of beds and mattresses as required to and from wards/departments and the bed store
13. The delivery of stores items from the stores to the various wards and departments when required
14. The delivery of drugs from Pharmacy to wards / depts. in a prompt, professional and efficient manner ensuring that all drug deliveries are handed to ward/dept. staff
15. The delivery of fluids from Pharmacy to wards / depts. in a prompt, professional and efficient manner
16. The collection and distribution of patient’s notes across site from healthrecords and all wards / depts.
1. The receipt, collection, delivery of incoming Trust mail from RM, couriers, and other distribution networks. The collection of mail from all trust department and dispatch of trust mail via RM, couriers, and other distribution networks
2. Report all damages to any infrastructure to the estates help desk
3. Report all door and alarm faults to the Security Manager
4. To follow all trust policies and procedures at all times.
5. The use of telephones, pagers, radios, computers and touch screen devices as required for the role
1. Carry out all activities according to H&S risk assessments
2. Take part in the trust annual PDR process
3. Ensure that all mandatory training is kept up to date

Any other duties designated as reasonable by the Head Porter, Charge Hand Porter or Deputy/ Operational Services Manager
