Our client, a School based near Hook, Hampshire are currently recruiting for an enthusiastic and committed Catering Manager.
As the Catering Manager you will develop a healthy eating ethos throughout the school, the core outcome being that the students' learn and
develop a degree of independence as they prepare for adult life.
The Catering Manager will inspire the students to develop a deeper understanding of all foods and encourage active participation wherever possible in the choice, preparation, and cooking of snacks, daily meals, baking and speciality celebrations in relationto food and culture. This role shall include daily intensive interaction with students across the school, so hands on working with the children is a core component of the role.
Key Duties include:
1.Provide the strategic direction needed for the department to develop successfully
2.To prepare monthly menus incorporating a wide variety of foods cooked using healthy methods.
3. To prepare a programme of themed weekly cooking activities to enable students to be involved in the preparation and cooking of a variety of their meals as well as developing greater variety of food preferences.
4.To prepare rotas to provide structure for the main house catering team.
5.To take a lead in directly serving the children's meals to encourage them to eat a rich and varied diet of their choice.
6.To ensure that the ordering of food and rotation of food stocks are maintained so that menus are achieved on budget and wastage is reduced.
7.To assist with café once a day running new taster sessions to encourage the students' enjoyment of food and the variety of foods that they wish to try.
8.To work with the Head of Care to ensure value for money with suppliers and negotiation of contracts
9.To ensure the safety of all involved in the catering facilities, undertaking Risk Assessments as appropriate
Management Duties include:
1.With support, train and positively encourage the catering team to develop and maintain a professional and friendly service to students and staff ensuring meaningful interaction with students at all times.
2.Provide strong day to day leadership and clear instruction allowing the school cook to manage the preparation and cooking of meals.
3.Ensure full team training is undertaken at regular intervals (including when new students arrive) regarding food allergies and intolerances so that all members of the team are aware of risk.
4.Conduct annual appraisals for the catering team
5.Work with the school cook to ensure hygiene is of the highest standards and in line with food safety regulations.
6.Work with the catering team to maintain health and safety at work at all times.
7.To promote teamwork and to motivate staff to ensure effective working relationships.
The hours of work are 8 hours per day between the hours of 7am - 6pm and the requirement to work 1 in 2 weekends.
