We are looking for a Librarian. This is an exciting opportunity to join GLT / Park House School and become an integral member of the support team.
This is an exciting opportunity to take on a key role. Supporting the delivery of learning to students, providing support to students, parents and the English department. This vital work will support the school in striving to raise standards of teaching and learning
Park House School is based in Newbury in Berkshire which in itself is in a beautiful area of the country and provides good access to Oxford and London. The area we serve is diverse, and therefore our catchment and students offer a range of expectations and challenges, being able to drive ambitions is key. Whilst the nation's results plummeted back to pre-pandemic levels, Park House attained their best results ever at both GCSE and A-Level. Furthermore, it was the only school in West Berkshire to show an improvement in outcomes and will have a Progress 8 way above the national average this year for the first time ever

Main responsibilities:
- To promote the role of the Library and develop opportunities for learning within it.
- To select, receive and catalogue books and other resources.
- To take responsibility for the all-school promotion and administration of the Accelerated Reader Scheme, providing teachers with data on pupil progress. To implement the reward system linked to Accelerated Reader, issuing prizes for pupils based on their data.
- To facilitate the library lessons undertaken by each Key Stage 3 English class on a fortnightly basis.
- To guide students in the selection and use of resources.
- To supervise and support students to locate, retrieve, interpret, evaluate and present information.
- To provide advice to the department regarding selection of books and multimedia resources, assisting with online searches and research projects.
- To organise author visits and other exciting activities which promote reading and engage students.
- To collect and update current affairs information.
- To set up and manage systems which enable the Library to operate safely and securely.
- To promote and supervise extended learning at lunch-time and after the formal school day.
- To research and produce displays relating to relevant curriculum topics.
- To manage a team of student librarians.
- To produce an annual library development plan.
- To manage the Library budget ensuring that resources are maximised.
- To undertake regular stock-takes and take appropriate action with regards late returns, damaged goods, ect.
- Monitoring, reporting, inputting and updating records as directed.
- Liaising with parents, external agencies, staff and students.
- Undertaking photocopying, scanning, lamination and binding.
- Attend meetings, training sessions, after school events and courses as required.
- Any other duties as required.
You will need:
- GCSE English and Maths A*-C (or equivalent)
- Experience of working with young people.
- Experience of supporting and working effectively with others to meet common goals
- Ability to plan, and organise effectively
- Experience working in an educational/learning environment.
