Job Introduction
Reporting to The Operations Manager (News) the TO works primarily in the News HUB.

The News Hub is a busy operational area working alongside a bustling Newsroom and it operates between 07:00 and 00:00 365 days per year.

The Technical Operator is a key player in the delivery of News Operations workflow for BBC NI

Main Responsibilities
The Technical Operator is required to perform all daily Hub Op functions under supervision and should be able to cover for the Senior Technical Operator. Responsibilities and duties include:

- Media ingest operations from baseband video and audio sources and for file based content from physical media and IT network sources
- Outgest and playout from the production system to a range of formats and SD, HD and IP based circuits
- Operation into local and remote Live transmissions
- Operation of a range of Broadcast IT and media handling systems
- Ad hoc operation of encoding systems for streaming content
- Use of the Core Infrastructure to Route HD & SD Video / Audio programme and comms circuits and use of conversion and interface tools to ensure signal quality and formats as required
- Liaison with remote source and destination facilities (eg: Studios, Control Rooms, Media Hubs, Outside Broadcasts and third party broadcasters)
- Liaison with internal and external bookings/planning offices and using a range of IT tools to input or respond to bookings requirements and log outcomes
- Outside broadcast circuit bookings and provision including, satellite downlinks and operation of microwave analogue and digital links
- Acting up for more senior colleagues as required.

Desirable though not essential, will be experience of/exposure to working in Vision Control and safe working practices in Studio and Outside Broadcast environments including Electricity at Work requirements and be able to manage conflicting priorities. The ability to resolve issues efficiently is key and you will be able to work in a high pressured environment.
