The Cambridge Conservation Initiative (CCI) is a unique partnership between leaders in biodiversity conservation and restoration from across the University of Cambridge and ten internationally renowned conservation organisations (BirdLife International, British Trust for Ornithology, Cambridge Conservation Forum, Fauna & Flora, International Union for the Conservation of Nature, Royal Society for the Protection of Birds, Traffic International, Tropical Biology Association, Wildlife Conservation Society and the United Nations Environment Programme-World Conservation Monitoring Centre). CCI partners work together and with others to conserve and restore life on Earth, towards a diverse world in which nature and people thrive. Through distinctive interdisciplinary work and by catalysing synergies between leaders in research, education, policy and practice, CCI aims to transform international biodiversity conservation, while also providing leadership on biodiversity and nature within the University's wider sustainability strategies.
The Communications Coordinator is a part time role covering 29.2 hours per week, or FTE 0.8, reporting to the Head of Strategy and Special Programmes. The role involves close collaboration with the Head of Communications and Impact within the Executive Director's Office to develop a core programme for CCI. The role holder will be responsible for maintaining key internal and external relationships, particularly with other communications professionals. There is a high degree of confidentiality required, and the programme is expected to attract a high degree of media and public interest at the time of launch. Therefore, the role holder will work with contracted agencies and individuals with expertise in marketing, PR, media training and other specialist communications.
You must have proven experience within a communications role and a strong understanding of media relations and digital media strategies. You should be proficient in MS Office, have solid and proven writing, editing and researching skills and be able to draft complex documents and write for varied external audiences. To be successful in this role you must be a self-motivated individual who is able to multi-task and have a track record of delivering to tight deadlines without compromising on quality. In addition, you should have excellent communication abilities (oral and written) and strong attention to accuracy and detail. A degree in Communications, Media or Marketing (or a related field), familiarity with design software (e.g. Photoshop, InDesign) or an understanding of and commitment to environmental issues would be an advantage.
This position is initially a fixed term contract for 18 months however we are expecting additional funding which would extend this contract further if received.
The closing date for this role is 3 March 2025.
The University has a responsibility to ensure that all employees are eligible to live and work in the UK.
