Rochdale CAMHS Team are developing a specific duty and assessment team and are therefore excited to be looking to recruit an experienced qualified mental health nurse or social worker to lead this new part of the service.

This is a full-time substantive role working with children and families presenting with a range of mental health challenges, and the post offers a breadth of opportunities for you to develop and hone core clinical skills in assessment, formulation, therapy, consultation and supervision of others.You will help ensure that CAMHS Getting More Help and Getting Risk support offers are developed and that those CYP that need help and treatment from CAMHS access it smoothly and at the earliest opportunity.

The successful applicant will act as the duty manager for the CAMHS service leading a team of professionals who are offering the initial assessment to children and young people of the borough. The team will be responsible for responding to risk presentations across a number of sites within the GM footprint, this includes hospital settings, urgent care centres and home addresses.

You will need excellent organisational skills to be able to respond to risk and support staff to re-prioritise depending on what is presenting on the day. You will need the ability to respond to young people and families expressing high levels of emotion and be confident to challenge decisions of other professionals in an appropriate manner drawing on formulation and clinical experience to provide a rationale for decision making.

You will be responsible for supporting practitioner decision making in relation to risk management and care planning and provide a high level of supervision to staff members.

Other CAMHS-linked services in place include our Early Attachment service, Our Place (multi-agency team for children on the edge of care) and the Mental Health Support Team, with other projects also in development.

We offer a robust supervision structure and development opportunities in terms of psychological therapies training within the trust and opportunities to access specialist training in line with your own and the team’s needs.
- To ensure high quality CAMHS clinical assessment of young people and their families referred via the Single Point of Entry
- To manage and clinically supervise CAMHS practitioners in managing their own caseloads.
- To be responsible for and manage a (reduced) defined caseload (as agreed with Operational Manager) and undertake key-worker responsibilities within the caseload, making autonomous decisions concerning service delivery, risk management, referrals to other agencies and discharge.
- To make independent clinical decisions about the appropriate therapeutic interventions for each young person, in accordance with individual assessed need, and to provide or provide access to this intervention, including those young people with learning difficulties.
- To identify and develop strategies to manage risk to the young person and others in line with Pennine Care procedures and protocols.
