Special Needs Teaching Assistant

A Special School in North Leeds is seeking long-term and full-time support staff to join their team.
**About the role**:
As a Special Needs Teaching Assistant, you will be supporting pupils with Mild to Severe Learning Disabilities, Physical Disabilities and Complex Needs to work to the best of their ability in order to make the most of their education and learning.
The responsibilities of a Special Needs Teaching Assistant at this school are to build relationships with the pupils in order to fully understand their needs and requirements and adapt to their personalized approach to learning.
Your role will be to act as a Carer for the children due to the severity of their conditions and support them in accordance to their care plans. As some children are Physically Disabled, tasks like Moving and Handling will be a requirement as the children will have restricted mobility due to their disability. It is also required that most children will need support with all aspects of personal care including toileting and dressing if the children are using the swimming pool facilities at the school.

The environment in which you will be working is in a Special School in North Leeds that caters for children between the ages of 2 to 19. The school caters for pupils with a wide range of learning needs from moderate to severe Learning Difficulties, Physical Disabilities, Complex Needs and communication and language barriers.
The school is committed to providing an environment in which all pupils can feel safe, happy, accepted and integrated, so that they are able to develop to their full potential. This means various facilities and provisions have been added to the school like creative/sensory rooms with disco lights and music to enhance their sensory skills. The children at this school also have access to a sunken trampoline room and a swimming pool to support pupils with their gross motor skills.
**Requirements**:
To be considered for the role of Special Needs Teaching Assistant you will:
- Be available Monday to Friday 08:30 - 15.30.
- Hold a Moving and Handling certificate.
- Be happy to support pupils with personal care (if required).
- Be willing to attend a one-day positive behaviour management course.
Salary is dependent on experience, training or qualifications. The minimum experience, training or qualifications required for this position are:
- Have a minimum of 6 months experience supporting children and young people with special educational needs.
