**Job summary**:
We are recruiting for the Commissioner’s Chief of Staff to lead and manage the Commissioner’s multi-disciplinary team and the work of the Office. The post-holder will be joining a fast paced and dynamic environment, and we are seeking a highly motivated individual who can deliver through others, drive forward work, and be flexible to the needs and priorities of the Commissioner, responding to reactive issues as they occur.
The role will be demanding and varied, and would suit someone who has experience of leadership within a complex and fast paced environment.
The Chief of Staff will be the civil service head of the Office of the Domestic Abuse Commissioner and will report directly to the Commissioner.

**Job description**:
The post holder will have day-to-day oversight and responsibility for the delivery of the Commissioner’s objectives. This will include:
- Developing and delivering the next 3-year Strategic Plan for the Office of the Domestic Abuse Commissioner. This strategy will cover policy, practice, research and communications programmes, maximising value for money and with consideration of the Commissioner’s unique statutory role.
- Building strong relationships at a senior level across Government, with parliamentarians, local government, front-line services, statutory agencies, academics and the specialist domestic abuse sector.
- Leading a team of 22 staff across four teams, spanning research, policy, practice and communications functions;
- Line management of 4 Grade 7 team leaders;
- Budget management and responsibility for £1.6m annual budget;
- Ensuring the smooth running, high morale and high performance of the Office of the Domestic Abuse Commissioner, with overall responsibility for the work of the entire team;
- Providing high-quality advice to the Commissioner;
- Working closely with the Commissioner to ensure their time is maximised and to capture progress against key milestones;
- Representing the Commissioner at key meetings, including responding to media enquiries on her behalf as necessary;
- Forward planning, horizon scanning and responding to emerging issues as they present themselves, supporting the Commissioner and the team to respond to new issues as needed.
**Person specification**:
The successful applicant must be able to demonstrate the following essential criteria:
- Experience of strategic leadership and managing and developing staff;
- Exceptional communication, negotiating, influencing and interpersonal skills to build effective relationships and partnerships internally and externally;
- Experience working with specialist voluntary sector organisations;
- Experience working on complex social issues;
- Experience working with national Government;
- Considerable experience leading teams and developing solutions in either a policy, practice, research or communications/media environment;
- Experience managing budgets;
- Sensitivity to those who are living with or have experience of domestic abuse, and awareness and enthusiasm for combatting domestic abuse.
Desirable criteria
- Experience leading a small multi-disciplinary organisation;
- Experience working with Local Authorities, Criminal Justice Agencies or Health bodies;
- Knowledge and understanding of issues relating to domestic abuse;
- Experience developing or delivering governance processes and structures.
