The objects of Newcastle West End Children’s Community are to enhance the life chances of babies, children and young people who live in or has a close connection to the West End of Newcastle. This will be achieved by working with organisations and families to develop the capacity and skills of communities within the West End of Newcastle in such a way that they are better able to identify and help meet their needs and to participate more fully in society.

Duties & Responsibilities
- Lead and inspire the West End Children's Community, ensuring that it fulfils its purpose and is consistent with its aims and objectives.
- To Chair the Board of Trustees, and play a leading role in the wider network.
- To ensure compliance with relevant legislation.
- To support strategic and policy development.
- To work with the Trustees, the Project Officer, and the Development Worker to ensure WECC meetings are conducted effectively.
- Champion and represent the West End Children's Community and attend other meetings where appropriate.

The Chair must be able to demonstrate:

- knowledge and experience of:

- collaborative partnership working
- statutory and charity sector
- the West End of Newcastle
- governance
- strategic development
- chairing formal meetings
- a commitment to working for the benefit of babies, children and young people
- that they meet the Charity Commission regulations for Trusteeship.

We expect the time commitment for the Chair role to be approximately 6-12 days a year. This will include chairing Trustee meetings (usually 2-3hrs per meeting, 6 times per year) and wider network meetings (usually 1.5 hours per meeting, 6 times per year), with the remainder for preparation, background reading and other meetings/calls with community members. As we are in the early stages of development, there might be a need for a greater time commitment. Currently meetings take place during the working day, and are both face to face and remote.

The Chair role is initially for one year, with the opportunity for an extension.

This is a voluntary role with no remuneration, however reasonable out of pocket expenses will be met.
