Workforce Strategy Lead

The Nursing Workforce and Midwifery Team is a high-profile national team, which sits in the Nursing Directorate. The team has a dual role of establishing national policy and running national workforce programmes to accelerate the supply of staff into providers.
We have an exciting job opportunity for an outstanding individual to join the team to drive forwards our maternity workforce programme and maternity workforce policy, making a real difference to the lives of patients. The post holder will be a senior member of the management team and work as part of a dynamic team, shaping future workforce requirements and policy interventions, managing relationships with internal and external stakeholders and supporting junior members of staff.
**Key responsibilities will include**:
- Lead the strategic scoping and planning of workstreams, identifying interdependencies, and potential impacts on wider organisation.
- Support senior members of the team to manage a portfolio of projects, whilst ensuring that cross cutting issues relating to workforce are understood and researched in order to improve NHSEI overarching support offer to NHS providers.
- Supporting diagnosis of workforce issues across NHS providers including, but not limited to, workforce planning, shift and Rota management, bank services, staff engagement, governance and agency management
- The provision of support to NHS England & Improvements (NHSEI) workforce team scoping, designing and delivering workforce and governance improvement programmes with providers

The Nursing Workforce and Midwifery Team is a high-profile national team, which sits in the Nursing Directorate. The team responsible is responsible for several programmes to support the recruitment and retention of nursing and midwifery roles across the NHS. The team also has a leading role in developing as well as influencing national workforce policy.
The Nursing Directorate
**The Nursing Directorate purpose may be summarised as**:
- To provide clinical and professional leadership for all nursing and midwifery staff in England (with the exception of public health nurses) including the 350,000 nurses and midwives who work for the NHS and who make up the largest group of the total NHS workforce.
- To provide expert clinical and workforce advice to the NHS and the Boards of NHS England and NHS Improvement to support the development of national policy and strategy (clinical, workforce, commissioning and improvement) and to the Government and Department of Health and Social Care (in line with the CNO’s role as the government’s professional advisor for nursing and midwifery).
- To work with and support regional teams to ensure safety, quality and patient experience are integral to work to delivery and system transformation
