We are currently looking to recruit 2 exceptional Anaesthetic Associates to the Anaesthetic Department at the ROH. The individuals we are looking for will bring a high level of skills into an already established Department of 22 Consultant Anaesthetist, 8 Middle Grade Doctors and 3 Anaesthetic Associates. The successful individuals will be highly motivated, have a great team ethic and able to work autonomously as required.
The post holder will provide anaesthetic services to include assisting with general anaesthesia, monitoring and maintaining the condition of patients, conduct the induction and emergence from anaesthesia under the supervision of a Consultant Anaesthetist. The post is designed to expand the working of 2:1 theatre due to new theatres being built. You would be joining an existing team of three full time AAs.
We currently have 14 theatres offering a wide exposure to anaesthesia utilising a variety of skills and methods. Spinal surgery including scoliosis may involve one lung ventilation, the major oncological work would expose you to massive transfusion and prolonged surgery in challenging patients. There is a huge amount of regional and neuraxial experience to be gained. Other options for professional development of include Perioperative Medicine if you have an interest in that. The Perioperative Medicine clinic has 10 sessions of Consultant cover a week and a variety of challenges to experience. As it is a small specialist hospital the working relationships with colleagues are one of the more rewarding aspects to working at the ROH.

Service Commitments
Your working rota will be allocated via the rota coordinator and reflective of a Job Plan agreed with Department CSL & CSM. The job is based on an average 37.5 hour week and you will be allocated A/L entitlement starting at 28 days (adjusting via years in NHS service) and bank holidays pro rota.
**Main Duties and Responsibilities**:
1. Maintain effective communication links with Anaesthetic Consultants and Trainees Sisters / Charge nurses, Theatre staff, Surgical staff and other divisional or departmental teams as appropriate.
2. Able to communicate complex conditions and related information to patients and their relatives in a manner that demonstrates empathy and reassurance.
3. Exercises and maintains confidentiality at all times.
4. Plans anaesthetic provision within a prescribed framework.
5. Administers drugs as prescribed and under patient specific directives (PSD).
6. To initiate and manage fluid and blood therapy within the plan of care.
7. Competent and demonstrates skills to assess and interpret acute patient conditions, taking appropriate action, recognising and managing emergency situations.
8. To perform pre-operative assessment of patients under the supervision of the anaesthetist.
9. To implement anaesthetic care under the supervision of the Consultant anaesthetist.
10. To administer and / or participate in the planned administration of general and regional anaesthesia for a variety of surgical and medically related procedures.
11. To use a variety of techniques anaesthesia agents, drugs, and equipment in providing anaesthesia care.
12. To interpret and utilise data obtained from invasive and non-invasive monitoring equipment. Utilise Information systems as required.
13. Assesses, develops, and implements anaesthetic programmes within prescribed framework, provides advice to the surgeon on anaesthetic care of the patient
14. To evaluate and / or collect patient information from the patient’s history, physical examination, laboratory, radiographic and other diagnostic date and identify relevant problems.
