**Summary**:
The Department for International Trade (DIT) negotiates trade agreements for the UK and promotes UK Trade and Investment around the world.

The Services Implementation and Market Access team sits across the Trade in Services team and the Bilateral Trade Relations Directorate. Our team aims to open up markets for UK suppliers, improve rules on services trade and support the growth and success of the UK’s services sector, including through the implementation of agreements.

We are recruiting for two Trade in Services Policy Advisers to join our team and work on trade agreement implementation and market access for the 70 countries the UK has signed trade agreements with, other than the EU. This is an exciting opportunity for you to be a part of shaping the UK’s policy on trade agreement implementation.

Trade in Services is a crucial element in the UK economy, making up 80% of UK GDP. You will be working closely with colleagues across Government to develop joined-up, evidence-based policy positions and set the UK’s Trade in Services implementation and market access objectives, and to deliver on the Government’s objective to secure UK and global prosperity by promoting and financing international trade and investment, and championing free trade.

We place a strong emphasis on learning and development. The successful applicants will receive a tailored induction programme, taking into account knowledge and experience.

**Job description**:
These roles will work closely with DIT policy teams, BTR regional teams, the Trade for Development Team, Analysts, legal, overseas Posts, and other Departments. Your responsibilities will include:

- Developing UK objectives and priorities on Trade in Services for countries in a defined portfolio,
- Developing and maintaining collaborative relationships with teams across the department, across Government, and based in partner countries,
- Supporting delivery of trade dialogues with partner countries. Ensuring dialogues deliver on UK priorities, including engaging direct with partner where needed, on areas of policy expertise,
- Delivering on resolving market access barriers by working with relevant teams in the department, across Government, and based in partner countries,
- Cooperating with colleagues across government to ensure that both the UK and our partner countries comply with our commitments in trade agreements,
- Drafting briefings and other materials related to policy areas for Ministers and senior Civil Servants,
- Engaging with businesses and other stakeholders to understand their needs in a rapidly changing environment and address these through our implementation and market access work.

**Hybrid Worker**

Please be aware that this role can only be worked from within the UK and not overseas.

Informal hybrid working arrangements will be available as agreed with the vacancy manager and in line with the requirements of the role.

Most DIT employees will be working a hybrid pattern, spending 2-3 days a week (pro rata) in an office, on average. If your office location is London, you will be eligible to receive London weighting.

**Responsibilities**:
**Essential Criteria**
- An interest in, and understanding of, international trade and the political and economic context for it,
- Good strategic thinking and decision-making skills,
- A team player attitude, who is flexible, proactive, and adaptable,
- Experience analysing information to reach conclusions and form recommendation,
- An understanding of the value of delivering timely, honest, objective, and impartial advice, and a commitment to doing so,
- A problem-solving outlook, who is able to balance competing priorities, and bring together a wide range of interested individuals and groups,
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.

**Desirable Criteria**
- Knowledge of trade policy,
- Experience working in an international context and with international partners,
- The ability to see and understand the political, economic and/or strategic context for the development and delivery of trade policy,
- The ability to develop, interpret and present policy, including presenting evidence and options, drawing upon experts as appropriate.
