Our not-for-profit care model means, with your help we can focus on enabling the vulnerable elderly lead happier healthier lives in a real home setting.
St. Joseph’s Care Home are currently recruiting for a Cook. The home which is registered for up to 55 older people is situated in Robroyston, Glasgow City Council. The Cook will be required to assist the Kitchen Manager in providing a catering and food service for the home. Responsibilities include assisting in the preparation, cooking, portion control and service of daily meals in a satisfactory nutritional manner and at an appropriate time and temperature. Working in a large well equipped kitchen, daily food preparation emphasis is on fresh home cooked food.

**For this role you must**
- Experience working in a busy kitchen
- Experience of cooking fresh, home-cooked food
- You will need to be able to produce simple Scottish dishes and traditional recipes
- Experience of supervising a team (in the absence of a Manager)
- Awareness of relevant legislation as it is related to the role.
- Have a Food Hygiene Certificate
- Professional cookery qualification (desirable)
- Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, working closely with managers and colleagues
- Be able to use your initiative and seek continuous improvement opportunities
- Ability to plan and meet deadlines
- Have excellent spoken and written English
Earliest start time will be 7:00am and latest finish time will be 7:30pm. Shift durations vary between 6 and 6.5 hours per shift.
You will be expected to be flexible within these times and flexible to cover for staff holidays and sickness, and you will be expected to assist with special events which may involve working overtime.
Due to the nature of the business weekend working is a requirement of the role.
The post requires a PVG check, 2 references, and an occupational health check. You must be legally able to work in the UK. We cannot sponsor overseas applicants for this post.
