Band 7 Renal Dietitian
Due to additional funding for the team, a fantastic opportunity has arisen for a part time band 7 Renal Dietitian to join our renal dietetic team. This position is 30 hours per week / 0.80 WTE.
The post holder will be a member of the renal dietetic team and will take a clinical lead role in the area of weight management and renal dietetics in relation to the kidney transplant pathway and you will be involved in other areas of renal dietetics. The role is one of an expert practitioner who works autonomously as well as part of a team.
You will sit within a team of 5 WTE specialist renal Dietitians based at the S W Thames Renal Unit at St Helier and you will see a range of inpatients on the renal inpatient wards, as well as providing a service to outpatient clinics and visits to renal satellite units.
- Be responsible for the provision of specialist, evidence-based Dietetic renal nutrition services to Low Clearance, Nephrology, Haemodialysis, Peritoneal Dialysis and Transplantation.
- To provide expert advice to patients, carers, and clinicians regarding the provision of nutritional support for renal patients based on clinical evidence. This will involve nutritional diagnosis (interpretation of biochemistry, anthropometrics, clinical condition and diet history) and the development of treatment plans (calculation of nutritional requirements and client-centred goals) and the prescription of dietary treatment and nutritional products.
- To provide highly complex renal nutrition counselling and use of reassurance and motivational skills to overcome barriers to change particularly where there is noncompliance.
- To support more junior members of the renal team in their development, as well as student Dietitians.
- Ability to utilise developed communication and teaching skills to educate the diverse and multicultural renal population with barriers to understanding the essential, highly complex renal advice both on a one to one basis and in groups.
- To make clinical decisions about the appropriate and safe administration of EN (enteral South West London Acute Provider Collaborative nutrition) or PN (parenteral nutrition) to the patient or recommendations as to alternative nutrition support.
Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust provides a range of medical services to approximately 490,000 people living across southwest London and northeast Surrey. In addition, we provide more specialist services, in particular renal and neonatal intensive care, to a wider area, covering parts of Sussex and Hampshire.
We serve an area that is rich in diversity, with a mix of urban and rural areas, and differing levels of quality of life. We cover some of the most prosperous postcodes in the country, as well as some poorer areas. Together with our colleagues at NHS Surrey and NHS Sutton and Merton, we work to make sure that we deliver the best possible care to the communities we serve.
The Trust employs approximately 5,000 staff across its hospitals and is supported by over 500 volunteers.
