**The opportunity**

We are looking for an editor to join the Bloomsbury Continuum team.

Bloomsbury Continuum is a non-fiction imprint within Bloomsbury’s Special Interest Division which publishes serious and rigorous trade non-fiction, aimed at a wider intelligent readership. We primarily publish in the fields of current affairs, politics, philosophy, history, biography and religion.

This is a crucial role which will enable us to expand this successful imprint. If you are a passionate editor, a reader of history, biography, politics, current affairs and philosophy, and want to join an ambitious and creative publishing team, then this is the perfect next step for you.

We are looking for someone with a clear editorial vision for the books they are assigned. Please note that this is not currently a commissioning position.

This role will report to the Publisher of the imprint.

**The role**
- To edit and publish non-fiction titles acquired by the Publisher and Editorial Director (10-15 titles pa). to an exceptionally high standard
- To act as principal contact for authors and agents on your assigned titles to ensure a high standard of author care throughout the publishing process, and strong relationships with agents to generate future titles
- To manage structural and line edit stages of a book, ensuring manuscripts reach their full potential and on deadline
- To liaise with Rights, Audio, Sales, Marketing and Publicity to create and deliver publishing plans, including writing sparkling cover copy
- To work with digital teams and the publisher to build a new stream of digital revenue for the list.
- To present titles at SMP & sales meetings where required, and to develop covers in concert with our designers.
- To manage picture research, picture budgets & permission-clearing where required
- To read and report on the high-volume of submissions from authors and agents
- To contribute creatively to the list - including on titles, copy, cover ideas and in generating ideas for books by identifying publishing trends/ future-casting.
- To run Biblio reports and undertake market research on Bookscan as required
- Liaising with metadata leads to ensure the highest standards, making constant improvements and meeting targets set by metadata colleagues

**Knowledge, skills and experience**
- Exceptional structural and line-editing skills - with a demonstrable interest and enthusiasm for history, politics and current affairs
- Knowledge of trends and developments in cover design and copy
- Exceptional copy-writing ability
- Commercial awareness and a track record of trend spotting and maximising revenues
- Knowledge of Biblio or other publishing systems an advantage but the ability to learn and adapt to publishing systems and processes quickly is essential
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and good attention to detail
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently
- Confident, enthusiastic, hard-working, committed

**Additional information**
The role is a full-time position. The role is based at our London office 50 Bedford Square, London, WC1B 3DP on a hybrid working pattern of 2 days office based / 3 days home based (or fully office based if preferred). Allocated office days for this role are Mondays and Tuesdays
