Making A Difference as A Substance Misuse Worker in YPDAAT
St Helens Young People’s Drug and Alcohol Team is currently recruiting 2 temporary substance misuse workers for a period of up to 3 years in line with government funding.
The team delivers a wide range of services to reduce the harms to young people caused by substance misuse.
The service works on an individual basis with young people, as well as delivering group work, events, training to the children and young people’s workforce and support for families.
You must be able to engage with young people, particularly those with more challenging and complex needs, to build trusting relationships and rapport, to deliver evidence based interventions to facilitate behaviour change and reduce the likelihood of harm caused by drug or alcohol use.
You will have good knowledge of safeguarding procedures and working with young people across the different levels of need, as well as being able to provide early help support (with the use of EHAT/CAF) to families, to build strengths and resilience. You must be passionate about helping people to make change and be able to challenge/support as required.

This post involves working with a number of professionals and services and the ability to adapt to situations, as well as building good relationships is key to this post.
The duties of the post may require you to work evenings and weekends.
You must have a minimum 2 years’ experience of working with young people and hold a relevant qualification (Level 3 or equivalent) in health, youth work, social work or similar. You must have a passion to work with young people to make a difference to their health and wellbeing. You should have up to date knowledge of substance misuse and related issues. The desire to help young people overcome substance misuse, along with enthusiasm, flexibility, adaptability, creativity, and a genuine commitment to improve life chances are important qualities for this role.
