The National Health Service Blood and Transplant Tissue and Eye Services are an integral part of the NHS. Our tissue donation programme saves and radically improves thousands of lives every year. This is a unique opportunity as you’ll join one of our retrieval teams with services capable of transplanting 90 corneas each week. With your help, we’ll safely and efficiently collect and store tissues, comply with regulations, and make the most of these valuable gifts. The Colindale retrieval team is a dynamic team that primarily covers tissue retrieval activity in London and the South East of England.

You will have NVQ level 3 in Care or Science or 4 GCSE’s at Grade C or above including English and Maths **(or equivalent **). You will also need to be able to retrieve multiple tissues from newly deceased donors. You must have good IT and organisational skills as you will have considerable administrative duties. Deceased retrievals are carried out over a wide geographical area, therefore a valid, _manual _, driving license is essential.

Once trained and fully competent, you will be retrieving a range of tissues from recently deceased donors under the supervision of a team leader or eyes independently. You will also support the Living Tissue Donation Specialist with the living tissue donation programmes.

You will possess good IT, organisational and communication skills, as there are a variety of administrative duties and excellent attention to detail is key.

You will be part of a team covering a 7 day scheduled rota, working between 08:00 and 21:00 over varying shift patterns, sometimes working alone.
