Shunter/cleaner [30230]

£26,167 per annum

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and reliable Shunter / Cleaner to join our established team at Shrewsbury Depot on a Full-time Permanent basis. The post holder will ensure that all shunting, cleaning and watering activities are carried out as set out in the appropriate instructions and specifications in a safe, timely and efficient manner.

This is a safety critical role, therefore having the ability to follow rules and regulations is essential.

**Duties include**:

- Carry out required shunting, cleaning and watering activities to a high standard
- Ensure that all shunting, cleaning and watering activities are carried out as set out in the appropriate instructions and in a safe, efficient and timely manner
- Clean both interior and exterior of trains to a high standard
- Operate mechanical wash plant as required
- Ensure clear and concise communications with Drivers and Signalmen
- Maintain and compile records as required
- Ensure seat reservation labels are placed on trains as per specification
- Ensure the safe disposal of rubbish
- Deal with bio hazards as per local instructions
- Comply with Rule Book and other instructions and standards
- Ensure cleaning materials and supplies are stored in accordance with COSHH regulations
- Ensure that all accidents and incidents are correctly reported
- Ensure all uniform, name badge, safety shoes and personal protective equipment provided is worn as required
- Ensure that SQMS requirements are met
- Report and follow up any equipment and location deficiencies
- Undertake safety audits and tours
- Ensure that a clean and tidy depot/workplace is maintained
- Any other duties commensurate with the grade and post and as required.
- The ideal applicant will have good safety awareness, excellent communication skills and some traction knowledge, although training is provided.
