Dermatology Intern

- Southfields Veterinary SpecialistsSouthfields Veterinary Specialists are currently recruiting a Dermatology intern who is registered with the RCVS.

The position is for one year with a fixed term contract of employment. You will be part of the clinical dermatology team and work daily in close coordination with an ECVD specialist in our stunning new purpose-built hospital.

Southfields is a large multi-disciplinary veterinary referral centre in Essex, UK, with Diploma
- holders in multiple disciplines including oncology, neurology, orthopaedics, soft tissue, anaesthesia, medicine, ophthalmology, dermatology, and exotics, with residents in many of these disciplines.

We currently have access to a brand new Storz video-otoscope and will be soon introducing portable video-otoscopy. Intradermal skin tests are available along with a Phovia photobiomodulation system.
- Learn how to conduct a dermatology consultation and communicate with the referring veterinarian
- Learn how to perform a dermatological examination including otoscopy
- Become comfortable performing, preparing and interpreting dermatological complementary exams (skin scrapes, coat combings, skin and ear cytology, trichoscopy.)
- Learn how to perform and interpret intradermal skin testing
- Learn how to perform ear flushes and myringotomy procedures
- Develop specific communication skills with pet’s owners regarding chronic skin and ear diseases

Work within the multi-disciplinary team and develop skills in written and oral communication.

- A desire to provide the best clinical service to all our patients and clients
- A good sense of humour

Specific experience/qualification/status requirements

You must fulfil the following requirements:

- Completed a recognised rotational internship, ideally in the UK
- Have an excellent command of written and spoken English
- Maintain a professional and caring approach in all aspects of your work
- MRCVS registered (or eligible)
