Student / Preceptee Clinical Support Midwife

Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust are very proud of their Award-winning Preceptorship programme and are currently looking for 2 WTEs to join and be supported by the established cross site midwifery education and recruitment team. The successful applicants will take on the role of Preceptorship & Student Clinical Support Midwife, one on each site.
The purpose of the role is to help our students and newly qualified to become confident, competent practitioners. It is expected that the post holder will work clinically with the students and preceptee midwives to provide support and advice withinallclinical areas, but mainly on Delivery Suite providing cover for a 24 hour service.
This is an innovative post requiring flexibly in your working pattern to cover days, nights, weekends and bank holidays. You’re responsible for ensuring your rota will be responsive to the needs of the students and preceptees.
You will lead in the support of newly qualified and student midwives in collaboration with the team responsible for Education, Senior Midwives and external organisations.
You will be required to deliver and facilitate a preceptorship programme in collaboration with specialist speakers and liaise with multidisciplinary colleagues to facilitate this programme.
You will support the newly qualified and student midwives clinically to facilitate development of skills to ensure high quality care is delivered and that they feel supported within the clinical environments
You will support the Senior Midwifery team to co-ordinate an environment of life-long learning for midwives.
You will work closely with the Practice Development Midwife (PDM) and the Clinical Practice Facilitator (CPF) in training and skills for midwives and preceptee midwives.

We facilitate care to over 8,000 clients and their babies every year. We have a busy obstetric unit on each site, both have beautiful co-aligned Birth Centres Along with our community teams these areas provide excellent learning opportunities and support to our students and 30+ preceptees.
Our consultant midwives are working together to support our maternity staff to enable clients to make evidence based decisions on their care.

Our whole maternity service is exciting and innovative and due to this, we received a CQC rating of ‘Good’ in 2017 which we have followed with another rating of ‘Good’ in 2018.
