**Job Role**: Family Support Coordinator
**Working hours**:7.5 hours per week, term-time
**Location**: Primary schools in Chelmsford
**Reporting to**: Youth Services Manager
**Liaison with**:
1. Youth Services Manager, Head of Childcare and Youth Services
2. Headteachers, School staff, children and families.
3. School Work staff, Youth Services staff and External Agencies.
Job purpose - To provide Family Support Service to Schools, Children/Young People and Families.
Main Functions - This outlines what the applicant will be expected to do in order to fulfil this job role.
- **Atmosphere**_
To create a warm, comforting and enriching environment for children, families and staff to be a part of, so they achieve to the best of their individual abilities.
To be a responsible, caring and nurturing role model for Children/Young People and their Families in order to create a positive, happy and supportive environment.
To provide a safe, diverse space that all children can access equally.
- **Business**_
1. To work with and support children and their parents with a range of needs, for example low self-esteem, behaviour, attendance, social skills, additional needs, punctuality, routine, structure, relationships etc.
2. To establish and maintain positive relationships between school staff and parents/carers and encourage use of behaviour management techniques and where relevant complement the work of partner agencies.
3. To link with the local services in co-providing a range of practical workshops for parents/carers designed to promote and develop positive behaviour management skills.
4. To negotiate for and with families the coordination of local based resources to support them.
5. To liaise with Education Welfare Officers: school attendance and to help support practical interventions to improve individual attendance.
6. To uphold the Aims and Purposes of the YMCA, specifically holding in balance the Christian, charitable and commercial aspects of the Association’s work.

1. To maintain confidentiality at all times.
2. To have a strong commitment to uphold the companies’ policies on Safeguarding Children, Young People and Vulnerable Adults, and to have the desire to want to work with Children and families and make a difference to their lives.
3. To ensure that the Policies and Procedures of the YMCA are carried out and understood fully.
4. To ensure that risk assessments have been carried out on a regular basis for all areas that staff and children access and all activities they may take part in and to ensure the implementation of Health and Safety Regulations are in place.
5. To make a commitment to understand and uphold the Mission and Values of YMCA so that we make a difference to young people and their lives.
6. To have an understanding to keep a balance between the Christian, charitable and commercial aspects of the Association’s work.
- **Personal**_
To encourage the inclusion of pupils in a mainstream setting by using positive behaviour management techniques designed to develop the pupil’s ability to behave appropriately. This could involve:
- Working alongside school staff, parents and carers, offering appropriate support strategies designed to encourage and develop appropriate behaviour in a variety of settings.
- Working alongside parents, carers, school staff offering group-based activities designed to develop parents and their children’s problem-solving, listening and social skills.
- Producing a variety of resources for the pupil/class/school/parents to support an individual’s behaviour programme and/or support whole class/school positive behaviour systems.
- Participating in the evaluation and review of the agreed support in conjunction with other Behaviour Support/School staff.
To work with others to plan, deliver and evaluate parent training and support groups.
To attend relevant meetings and training.
To complete soft outcome tool with each case, to demonstrate the outcomes achieved with the client.
To produce a monitoring form every term to inform schools of the cases and outcomes achieved.
To facilitate effective communication between parents/carers and schools.
To establish links in the wider community to enable pupils to participate positively in activities outside of the school day.
To work with identified children and families assessing their needs, family functioning and relating to appropriate services.
To manage a caseload of support in each school of educational and preventative work with children and their families.
To provide advice and information to parents/main carers and parenting and early years education.
To organise, coordinate and lead needs led parent/main carer education and support groups.
Where appropriate, to participate and/or provide reports for multi-disciplinary teams and contribute to their effectiveness for families with young children.
