**Machineshop Inspector**

**Salary**: £12.74-£14.50 per hour

**Job Title: Machine Shop Inspector**
Test and inspect machined products at various stages of the manufacturing process, primarily in process and final inspection, compile and evaluate statistical data to determine and maintain quality and reliability of products.

**Purpose**:
This position is responsible for the quality of parts leaving our facility. This requires hands on inspection, and implementation/documentation of all Quality requirements.

**JOB SCOPE**
Ensure quality, engineering and process procedures are followed to produce a product that maintains a high standard for customers.

**Key responsibilities**:
Perform inspection, including in process, first off and final inspection.
Comply with Material Certification system, including proper material logs, proper certifications and proper ID of remnants.
Ensure compliance with all company safety standards.

**DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Conduct tests at specified stages in the machine shop process, and test products for a variety of qualities such as dimensions, performance, and mechanical characteristics
- Recommend modifications of existing quality or production standards to achieve optimum quality within limits of equipment capability.
- Communicate with supervisors, engineers, production control, quality and other shop personnel for assignments and to resolve machining or quality issues.
- Perform various other duties assigned by supervisor within the physical constraints of the job.
- Sets up and operates gear inspection equipment to measure curvature of gear tooth, distance between teeth, concentricity of gear, profile and surface dimensions, surface finish, and material hardness of production and prototype gears, utilizing knowledge of gear inspection techniques and procedure.
- Inspect process and paperwork in the machine shop to ensure procedural standards are being followed. A first article inspection as well as multiple spot inspections of all in process parts.
- Must be proficient with calipers, micrometer, height gages, dial indicators, standard layout tools.
- Study and interpret drawings, blueprints, manuals, specifications or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work pieces, sequence of operations, tools to be used, and materials for the job and setup requirements.
- Receive incoming product: Inspect for dimensional, traceability, count, and material conformance.
- Mounts master gears on testing machine, attaches recording instrument leads and styluses to gear, and starts machine to calibrate machine instruments. Mounts and secures gear on spindle or arbor of machine, sets instrument stylus on gears, and turns instrument dials to zero. Measures surface finish, using profilameter. Measures material hardness, using hardness gauge
- Log and Calibrate all shop callipers, micrometers, and all other precision instrumentation.

(Surface plates, Height Gages, etc )
- Generate and log scrap reports, non-conformance reports, receiving inspection reports, as well as other internal departmental forms.

**Skills & Knowledge**
- Good verbal communication skills.
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos in

English.
- Ability to follow oral instructions.
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, volume, and metric conversion.
- Ability to read precise measuring devices; micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, etc.
- Should be able to work closely with fellow employees.
- Participate and adapt successfully in a team oriented environment.
- Committed to continual learning and punctuality.
- Basic knowledge of computer operation, Windows, and Microsoft Office. Ability to competently use measuring equipment such as micrometres, as well as measure and machine to +/- 0.05mm consistently.
- Capable of assessing manufactured features for conformance to requirements
- Ability to read and understand technical/engineering drawings and to declare non
- conformances as they are produced or detected
- A strong work ethic, capable of both working unsupervised and as part of a team
- A working knowledge of health & safety and good housekeeping
- A good understanding of English both written and spoken
