**Job summary**:
We are looking for a Principal Resilience Advisor (PRA) who will act as Head of Profession for the Resilience & Business Continuity (BC) capabilities within the organisation, provide professional advice, policy and guidance to the Dstl Chief Executive (CE) and Senior Dstl Management.

You will set and oversee the resilience controls that underpin Dstl’s licence to operate and associated accreditation, and support the Head of Operational Resilience in monitoring, mitigating and managing strategic resilience and BC risks.

To be successful in this role you will need to demonstrate agility of thought and approach in managing complex Resilience and BC problems.

You will be expected to generate creative solutions that balance risk and generate operational agility whilst ensuring compliance with critical controls aspects.

Drawing on your significant professional resilience training and experience you will be able to successfully demonstrate your ability to establish, develop, maintain and sustain a wide range of professional relationships with key stakeholders across government.

**Job description**:
**In this role you will**:

- Be accountable for setting the strategy and direction for the resilience and business continuity for the organisation.
- Lead the resilience and business continuity capability, identifying the standards required and a clear improvements programme to address shortfalls
- Be accountable for ensuring Dstl’s state of readiness of the organisation to respond effectively to planned and unplanned disruption, both internally and externally, across a number of complex areas including, but not limited to - animal welfare, biological, chemical and counter terrorism threats
- Ensure accountability for compiling and maintaining a comprehensive list of Criticalities, critical systems and developing the mitigation strategies for emergency preparedness
- Maintain ownership of the organisations ability to demonstrate emergency preparedness as part of an assurance program.

**Person specification**:
We are looking for someone who has the ability to demonstrate relevant specialist security skill set consistent with Defence and the Government Resilience Profession skills criteria.

You will have experience and evidence of operating at a high level in a cross-enterprise context, or equivalent experience in Government or Industry/the Private Sector with an understanding of UK Government Concept of Operations (CONOPs), ISO BS EN 22301, NSRA, JSP 503 (Defence Resilience) & Civil Contingencies Act 2004.

Due to the classification of expected work, you will be required to be at either the Dstl Porton Down site or Dstl Portsdown West site.

**Important Information**:
This role will require full UK security clearance and you should have resided in the UK for the past 5 years.

For some roles Developed Vetting will also be required, in this case you should have resided in the UK for the past 10 years.
